I have an idea for a two-player challenge.
Player 1 will have a fortified base with many layers of walls and structures, but no villagers, food, wood, gold, or stone.
There will be plenty of farms, trees, and gold and stone mines close to the base.
The civilization chosen for Player 1 should be one that is defensive in nature, such as the Byzantines.
Player 2 will have a large army, but no base, and should use a civilization that has good siege capabilities, such as the Mongols.
The game should be set in the Imperial Age, on a large map, preferably a Giant map.
The terrain should be dense forests with winding paths, some of which will be dead ends, and there might be wolves.
The objective is for Player 2 to make their way to Player 1’s base and defeat them, while Player 1 must build up their population and resources and create an army to defeat or outlast Player 2.
Sounds like a blast!!
Probably best to avoid a lake with fish, otherwise Player 1 would be able to build a transport ship, load a village and refuse to quit if they lose.
You could also implement different “handicap” levels to offset different player levels, by giving player 1 a smaller city or player two a smaller army or by making an AI opponent attack one of them more fiercely 🙂
