I’m really having difficulty succeeding in battles.
It seems like I’m missing something about the game.
Whenever I get to the point where I’m fighting against the computer, my units are wiped out and I lose.
This happens almost every time, even though the stats usually show that I have a much larger army.
I make sure to upgrade my troops, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.
Last time I was playing with British and Italians, archers versus archers, and I still lost.
I’m wondering if it’s my army composition, or if there’s something else I’m doing wrong that’s causing my units to get slaughtered without putting up a fight.
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5342NyacreepsGuestDid they have skirmishers which counter archers?
You may have the larger army at the beginning but if you don’t send reinforcements (which the ai does a good job at) you will end up losing the fight.
Also as Italians have thumb ring and pavise they will win against britons in a straight up archers fight
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5343BluePlayer10GuestLet me know if you want me to watch the rec for you and can have a look at helping the specific questions you have?
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5344Scoo_ByGuestGet upgrades from blacksmith.
For knights, if you’re facing crossbows, get armor upgrades.
If crossbows against melee units, get only attack upgrades, and later thumb ring, ballistics, chemistry in Imperial etc, if xbows against enemy xbows, both attack+armor.
If fighting pikemen with knights, get some scorpions behind the knights.
Knights v knights/camels, both attack armor.
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5345XhaerGuestMaybe this is too beginner, but are you attack moving, and are all the units you have at the fight?
The “Select All Army” hotkey only selects 60 units.
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5346UmdeuterGuestMicro and upgrades.
Check youtube for Viper explaining Micro to Grubby
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5347ThindithronGuestbuild lots of mills.
the AI is a bit like Don Quixote
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5348jsbaxter_GuestWell if you’re relying on infantry that might be part of the problem…
Especially if “larger army” just means lots of units, but you’re facing more expensive cavalry armies, or archers or something that kills infantry hard.
Do you know the unit counters, what your units are actually strong/weak against?
Do you watch your recordings with capture age?
It has great stats readily available on army value and techs researched.
I have often found myself losing fights I thought I should win because I simply miss calculated the relative strengths of our armies. (Terrible micro management doesn’t help either…)
Speaking of which, what sorts of units are you using (against what)?
And do you know what sort of micro management is required to get good value out of them?
I’m not great at this game I don’t have the answers but these are the sorts of questions I’d ask.
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5349Sideways_X1GuestLook at Spirit of the Law on YouTube for statistics and info.
Survivalist is incredible for learning high level play and understanding what is happening.
Do the Art of War challenges if you haven’t yet.
Attack move means go that way and fight, right click means “focus on killing that specific jerk there and don’t do anything else until he’s dead, even if it kills you”
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5350Sideways_X1GuestAlso 100% happy to watch a game or play with you too
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5351Upper-Preparation-76GuestHera’s videos on micro were also very helpful for me understanding when to use attack-move, patrol-move, and focus fire.
January 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm #5352Thezaha1GuestThanks everyone!
With your tips, I just beat hard AI twice in a row.
Right clicking was apparently killing me.
Also, while I thought I was fully upgraded, I really wasn’t.
Will continue to explore resources, and maybe take some of you up on your offer to play.
