Hello everyone, I am planning to buy a gaming mouse for my boyfriend and I have shortlisted two options – Logitech G203 and Steel Series Rival 3.

I wanted to know if anyone has experience using these mice for playing AOE2 and what their thoughts are.

Also, are there any compatibility issues that I should know about?

    Thank you in advance!

    Here’s a link for comparison: https://www.rtings.com/mouse/tools/compare/logitech-g203-prodigy-vs-steelseries-rival-3/1609/1747?usage=8876&threshold=0.14

Honestly you really can’t go wrong with either!

Now I haven’t used both, but spec wise they are very comparable with similar number of programmable buttons & neither is that much better than the other.

If I was buying one of these two for myself; id purchase the logitech due to the slightlyyyyy lower click latency (if not considering price).

However if the prices on Amazon are correct, the steelseries is more than half the price cheaper than the Logitech.

So if I’m price conscious I’d be just as happy with the steel series.

    Great gift idea!

Should be no compatibility issues either way.

Both will be more than fine.

I prefer to use a mouse with a curve for the thumb and a smaller indent for the little finger, instead of a symmetrical one.

Personally I found it far less stressful for the wrist during long sessions.

Been using a Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury for 3 years.

I don’t know the comparative pricing in your country, but the prices in my country are fairly similar for all three models.

If you want to look at this one, just keep in mind that the right-handed model and left-handed model would be different.

Just an alternative suggestion, otherwise both the models you posted are fine.

    I have the g203!

Been a logitech mouse user for 20+ years now.

Went to the g203 from the g502 and had a g302 before..

G203 is the best of these three for me.

Very comfortable for fingertip grip, my handsize is 20cm (from the base of palm to the tip of middle finger).

I use it mostly for Dota2 and Pubg, set to 800dpi, but you can change that and have switchable presets for different sensitivites.

Don’t know anything about the Steel Series mouse.

Logitech G Hub app is ok, not great not terrible.

I have a Logitech keyboard and headset as well, you can set the dpi and rgb in the app.

Definitely a good mouse, would recommend, unless your bf needs many additional keys, this one has two extra side buttons and one top button set to dpi change by default.

And you can press the scroll wheel as a middle mouse button too, pretty standard stuff.

I bought the Logitech G203 last year just to play AoE2 and I’m very happy with the result.

So much so that I bought another one for a friend of mine that plays AoE2 as a birthday present.

Both of us noted that our APM count increased by about 20-25% when using this mouse, vs a regular old one.

Plus, it has nice color lighting transitions that you can personalize.

I can’t speak to the Steel series, I have never used it.

You want a mouse with a laser at the bottom rather than a rubber ball.

It makes your movement so much smoother.

I had a good experience asking r/MouseReview when I wanted to know about a good alternative to a logitech mouse I thought had been discontinued but I used to love it.

I doubt that you’re going to find aoe2-specific compatibility issues so you might get what you need from them.

But for aoe2 I’ve had a mouse whose side buttons were just a bit uncomfortable to reach for and that sucked.

So something like making sure side-buttons are easy to access is gonna be important.

And of course that the mouse is a good size/shape for your boyfriend’s hand.

I have a corsair mouse with 1-12 number buttons on it that I like to use as my control groups.

I’m not sure if it’s the best setup ever, but I personally like it.

It’s nice to have your control groups in an easy to reach place

    Using a Logitech G203 myself.

    I can highly recommend it.

Still using logitech G502, no problem so far.

But I would add that it depends on hand size and grip, so you should keep that in mind.

But if your boyfriend uses a mouse with similar size it should be ok either way 🙂

    I have that first one!

    I love it.

The DPI shift button can actually be used as hotkey as well (others might do the same, I dunno, but I thought you should know this).

Really really love this mouse, specially since I got a hefty discount on it.

Logitech for mice and steel series for headsets.

If you can get a lightspeed wireless Logitech even better.

I have a 703 with the charging pad great buy.

    I use a G203 with a 3000 DPI configuration, and I just can’t go back to a normal 800 DPI mouse.

Additionally, you can store four different DPI configurations in its internal memory.

However, I’ve never gotten used to using the side buttons; they feel kind of out of place for me
