The New Imperial Age technology of Inheritance allows for a cost of 400 gold for every knight killed in battle, with 20% of the cost being returned.
This technology can be researched from a castle, but unfortunately, the Poles do not have access to it.
What are your thoughts on this?
Why?
I’d prefer it as a cool Unique Tech.
Make it more Unique to a civ
Why?
The point of Knights is to buy speed.
Speed in movement, speed in killing, speed in winning.
That’s why Knights counter Pikemen in early Castle Age.
When you take a fight with Knights, they are the first to die because they’re in front.
Do the same thing with Crossbowmen, your meat shield is the first to die.
Fundamentally, Crossbowmen are meant to have greater longevity.
However, Crossbowmen can’t push the way Knights can.
If you sweep with Knights, now the economy is undefended and you can destroy the opponent in minutes.
If Crossbowmen win a major fight, they still need assistance to do anything more than harassment.
This technology defeats the balance of Knights.
Like all your suggestions, this seems extremely well thought out.
Are Forgotten empires looking for anyone?
Being a Unique Tech, it would be cool (not sure about the cost, though).
But, being an all-civ tech, it would very obviously be an unnecessary big buff to all knight civs, which is so uncalled for
Nope, nope, nope.
Hussars already are cost effective raiders and they take that role in post imp.
Paladins/cavaliers are mainly useful as generic melee filler, base destroyers or siege killers, they’re not a unit you can afford to throw away and this tech would work better on a trash unit or elephants.
Also buffs franks late game which is supposed to be their weakness, with this tech your gonna have to deal with more paladins!
YAY!!!
And berbers become the 2nd poles, cheaper cav and gold discounts.
Having a significant amount of Chevaliers or Paladins in later imp can be considered a significant lead by itself.
Your technology wouldn’t achieve anything but turning a significant lead into a nearly idiot proof one.
Not something one should aim for.
