Lagging or Slowing Down on Wi-Fi

When I am connected to the internet via a wired connection, my gaming experience is smooth and without any lag.

However, when I am connected to the Wi-Fi, the game becomes extremely laggy.

The in-game ping shows 50ms which is reasonable compared to the 20ms when I am wired.

My internet connection is otherwise very good with fiber optics, 500Mb/s, and a 6ms ping to google.com.

It is almost as if I have a 200-300ms or more delay on every command, making the game almost unplayable.

My ELO rating drops significantly and I cannot micro archers or manage my economy properly.

I have tried different Wi-Fi connections but restarting the PC or router has not made any difference.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue or what might be causing it?

Sounds like packet loss over wifi, which means you are dropping data and it needs to be re-sent.

Sure your ping is great for the data that makes it through to the internet, but ping isn’t everything and doesn’t account for data that doesn’t make it and needs to be re-transmitted.

If your connection works fine over wired then you need to look at things such as wifi interference, and perhaps change the channel your wifi is using.

If you are living in a very wifi congested area, such as a large apartment building, then your options over wifi may be limited.
