If you’ve ever played Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, you may be familiar with the mode where you play on a global map in a turn-based fashion.
Every encounter jumps into Skirmish mode between the two players and whoever wins that battle takes control of that part of the world.
The player who dominates the entire map is the victor.
Unfortunately, C&C3 only allows for one player to go up against the AI.
But, imagine if Age of Empires 2 had a similar multiplayer game mode!
The Skirmish locations would be geographically appropriate, such as the Middle East or Central Europe.
Conquering certain regions could grant access to civilizations from that area, as well as unique units or upgrades that could be assimilated into the global civilization.
The turns could be configured to span days, or they could be shortened to a few hours.
Campaign maps could be reused for certain locations, such as major cities.
In addition, alternative win conditions could be implemented to prevent the game from going on too long, like building and defending three wonders.
To make the game end faster, powerful and unique campaign units could be purchased in the metagame.
Strongholds or locations could be upgraded to start with a different age, and a global king could be killed for instant victory.
These ideas could be used to create a unique and interesting experience for Age of Empires 2 players, while also recycling existing game mechanics, configurations, and assets.
Would you pay for this as an expansion?
