Is Watching This Game More Enjoyable Than Playing It?

I can understand it.
When you go into a game against Mongols, you feel a combination of contempt and apprehension, and have to play things based on what you know about common mongol gameplans.
When you watch some game involving a Mongols player, there’s appreciable suspense, and you can root for the other guy.
I don’t play 1v1s anymore because they’re more stressful than fun for me, but I love TGs and stupid lobby games
I like to play and watch too, but fair enough sentiment.
In the same way people may not like to watch a particular sport but they like to watch it on TV.
Aoe does have a big difficulty curve and needs regular gameplay just to stay at the same level, not everyone has the time or energy for it.
I’m in the opposite camp; I know I’d improve if I watched pro players but I simply cannot bring myself to spend time watching someone else play a video game.
If I get an hour or two to game in a day I want to spend all of it playing.
I do.
I also enjoy playing but as I never played much RTS it feels sad because my brain knows what I should do whereas I can’t execute it probably.
So playing ranked is not that enjoyable.
Maybe it get’s better with more games, we will see 😀
I was like this with StarCraft 2.
At least age is a little slower paced so I actually enjoy playing ranked on this game.
I also hold myself to 0 standards in aoe2 so that makes it fun as hell as well
I agree.
Build orders tok away the fun.
You know what i mean, when you where a child and just boomed and build walls and 150 paladins.
Not knowing that i sucked was great.
But watching theese pros are really fun
I watch more than I play these days, I set it up as background “noise” while working @ home.
The reason I don’t play that often is that I have a kid and a baby and they love to interrupt me.
Im sure I’m in the minority but I only really play against the ai.
I played the original for years, got the hd edition and within the past 6 months got the definitive edition through game pass.
I’m achievement hunting which brought new life to the game for me.
I’m currently playing through the campaigns and doing random skirmishes on the side.
I think I’ve only ever played online a handful of times ever.
Since I got a full-time job and a family I think I’ve watched good players play the games I love at least twice as much as actually playing the games myself.
After a day of work I don’t have the energy to play myself and love roaming Twitch instead.
I enjoy watching, casting and playing.
But if you want to gain elo this game can be super stressfull
I exclusively watch and do not play this game and its been that way since zeroempires was the only big aoe2 content.
I find it useful for when I’m doing something monotonous and spreadsheety at work bc I can tune it out/interrupt it whenever, without feeling like I’ve ruined a story beat or something
