You dispatch three of your villagers to go hunting and construct a mill.
This investment of 100w and villager time will result in a more efficient collection rate.
Additionally, you increase the collection rate by using your scout to find deer and other animals, instead of laming them, as this is not suitable for a military unit.
This strategy will provide a safe and efficient way to collect resources, with only a few seconds of scout time needed per deer.
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7222SBDRFAITHGuestUsing many scount to lure makes you lose valuable scout time and is sometimes tricky to do if you have a lot going on.
I think its fine.
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7223Outside_Knowledge_24GuestYes, luring should be possible.
You trade off scout time for resources, and in exchange for a food boost lose the ability to scout your opponent early, intercept a drush, find neutral resources, etc etc.
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7224Urc0mpGuestPersonally I think it is unfair to eat boars and sheep.
Why are players incentivized to hurt those poor sheep?
Furthermore it doesn’t make sense to completely deplete the berry bushes, we should be harvesting from them sustainably so that vills can enjoy tasty berries in the imperial age.
Let’s make this game better, people!
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #72251mdelightfulGuestThe First Deer is “Free”
As free as your ability to push the deer and keep your tc pumping and build on track allows it to be.
Any additional pushed deer gives up scouting.
So now you have a choice do I get greedy and push all my deer or do I scout my opponent?
A game a series of interesting choices and you can’t have interesting choices without interesting trade offs.
Scouting vs 300 extra food (which may not come in smoothy and disrupt your build) is a tough choice.
Pushing deer also has the side effect of an APM practice exercise.
Pushing your deer while managing your build is great practice for micro and multitasking required in the game.
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7226VixarkGuestPushing all deer you lose scoutting information which is highly valuable.
Besides, sometimes the deer are behind wooldlines, which makes them hard to push for average players without messing up with something else, even just one.
About the other alternatives check this analysis: [https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/t4y547/deer_vs_berries/](https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/t4y547/deer_vs_berries/)
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7227NesquGuestPushing deer vs not pushing deer usually means scouting your extra res and your opponents base vs only scouting “most” of your own base.
Proper scouting is super important, IMO, especially if you get pushed off of your main gold/stone or get info that your base has a lot of areas you can wall to make it better defended while costing less.
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7228the_bizGuestit’s more than a few seconds of scout time, but even a couple minutes of scout time is not very valuable for DE maps.
they’re too barren and predictable, so even if you wanted to explore it instead of pushing, there’s nothing to find
but if people couldn’t push deer, they’d just use the scout for laming, so it’s better to just leave it alone.
you’re naive if you think they’ll go explore the empty corners of maps with nothing on them instead of laming
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7229Apprehensive_Alps_30GuestWhats your point?
Lure 0-1 deer and try to scout the enemy.
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7230Wrong-CoffeeGuestPushing deer is worth it imo.
It’s basically another boar.
The downside is loss of scouting info.
If you open scouts the only openings that are “scary” is men at arms.
If you just small wall wood lines and berries they do almost no damage.
If they open archers they won’t move out until fletching finishes.
I think scouting is more important if you’re opening drush or men at arms.
So you know where you’re attack.
I’m just a 1400.
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7231RyselleGuestI often went for option 2, but with 6 villagers.
I haven’t done the exact math, but the investment of 100 wood for around 400 food that gathers quicker then fields seem a good tradeoff…
At least from the 700 elo perspective.
And at one point you need that second mill anyway.
January 31, 2023 at 7:42 pm #7232Queasy_Economist_402GuestThis is so big a problem that the devs just made the scout hunt deer in aoe4
