When the Forgotten Expansion came out in 2013, it added an Interesting rarely thought-of technology called Hunting Dogs.

The tech cost 40 food, 25 wood, took 15 seconds to research at the mill, and was available in Dark Age.

It made Hunters and Fishermen work 25% faster.

For a cheap price, this was a very strong economic boost.

It didn’t last long, within a few patches it was removed from the game due to professional players not liking the tech.

Well, here’s an idea: What if it was brought back as a Dark age Unique tech?

Suppose a future civilization like Jurchens was given this long-lost tech again as a civ bonus.

Its cost, effect, and research time could obviously be adjusted to properly balance the civilization, but I think it would be cool and unique for a civilization to have an incentive to quickly rush down a mill before a lumber camp.

It could be especially useful on Hybrid maps with lots of shore fish.

Alternatively, “Faster-Working Fishermen” could be replaced with “Faster-Working Foragers” so that Hunting Dogs isn’t just a weaker version of the Mongol Hunt Bonus on land maps and to avoid balance issues on Shore Fish maps.

I like the idea of unique techs outside of the castle.

Although I think a dark age resource bonus unique tech should probably just be a civ bonus like you mentioned.

Both Gurjaras and Portuguese usually open mill already.

Hunting Dogs is just extremely polarizing as a bonus.

It can be in the game, but Mongols and Goths teach us hunt bonuses mean the civ can’t get another eco bonus that hits early.

So it could be added to the right civ.

Hunting Dogs was removed for a reason since it kinda forced people to build a mill even if their build order didn’t need one.

This kind of bonus including the fishermen would be interesting as a civ bonus for a future civ tho

If they make it a Town Center tech and it cost you 25secs.

    Potentially it could work.

25% faster fishing on maps like African Clearing or Hunt in Valley is just pour busted unless every Civ can have the tech like loom.

    And then you achieve nothing.
