I love to siege tower my eagles in early castle age with Mayans.

    Is a fun time.

I use petards on Arena when I am lazy to make trebs and want to quickly get inside someones wall while having a full paladin army or something and my teammates refused to make siege lol.

    Petards are created too slowly.

I would only use a petard if I’m ready to go all in on a castle age strike and I haven’t invested in siege.

Siege towers are fun against the AI to draw arrow fire so you can maneuver your units safely into striking range.

In arena, those are the only unit used.

    Petardos hace two main uses

In arena when you have a wall it takes 2 petares to open so it’s a pretty common and good strategy to use two petardos with some velvety behind to open the door and immediately raid.

Second scenario is two castles one next to the other.

You can bring it down with 7 petards

1 petard to take down a feudal stone wall.

Thanks Viper for allowing us to experience that at your expense.

As many have said, Petards are useful with their bonus damage against walls, with their training location coming into play in castle fights.

I want to focus on siege towers.

Added in the forgotten for the scenario editor, it used to be a mobile tower, shooting arrows and garrisoning units.

This was reworked into our current version, presumably because Incas made the devs realize how little the community liked towers to begin with.

The siege tower is compareable to the battering ram in stats, both have high HP, high pierce armor negative melee armor and can be produced in the siege workshop.

This is already a problem for the siege tower, as it costs 50% more wood and double the gold.

In any situation where both would do, players will obviously use the cheaper option.

Battering rams are used to destroy walls, destroy TCs, clean up bases, pressure siege, destroy castles in castle age and soak up projectiles.

The only thing siege towers can barely compete in soaking up projectiles, but 40 wood and 85 gold is not worth the 45 extra health and increased speed.

Once you reach Imperial, Capped ram outclasses them even further.

The only thing unique to them is bypassing walls entirely, but that interaction is buggy, not all that useful, less effective with higher elo, leaves your units stranded, doesn’t work with the best raiding units and doesnt achieve anything 2 rams cannot.

petards are great on arena at around 1k elo nobody expects it.

They can react to a castle but not to 2 petards and archers + knights from your pocket in tgs

If you play a lot of arena you might see some siege towers – there are builds centered around them.

Not great builds, IMO, but they do exist.

They aren’t super useful in general.

Petards though I see somewhat regularly.

They are situational, but in those situations they are quite useful.

tbh I see more petards than makes sense, they only work about 25% of the time in my experience.

    But boy are they fun.

Siege towers are great for sniping specific units under a heavy barrage of arrows without losing your units.

    – You want gbetos to go under a castle and kill trebs?

    Siege tower.

    – You want to raid with 10 crossbowmen but cannot safely move past a fully garrisoned TC?

    Siege tower.

I’ve started seeing a ton of petard play on Arena.

If a pocket goes aggressive, they will burst through a wall and with a few upgraded cav just destroy you before you can send your army back.

This thread has inspired me to heavily embrace the petard

Originally, the game had (and still has) Saboteurs, which were basically stronger and faster petards, but they were only available via cheats and in some campaigns.

Eventually they added Petards, a significantly nerfed version of the Saboteur, for skirmishes, online, etc.

Petards have some uses, especially when you need to take down a building at all cost (Wonders, relic victories).

Petards also made some campaigns significantly easier.

A few campaigns used to require you to take down a castle without siege weapons, but after they added Petards, those levels became really easy.

My guess is the seige tower was added because of its popularity in medieval folklore.

In theory the seige tower should be very effective, but because they are slow, can’t attack, and building double layered walls eliminates its purpose, it became one of the most useless units in the game.
