I was surprised to find that my plan of sticking with Swordmen and investing into them actually worked out.
Despite my opponent selecting the map, having a higher rating, and me being relatively new to Arena, I was able to overwhelm him with a combination of Rams and Champions.
This was likely due to the clunkiness of the pathfinding, the fact that Organs had more overkill, and the fact that Light Swordsmen give more DPS per resource than Knights.
Although Imp has an easy tech switch with Halberdiers, if you invest too much into Castles and Organs, you may be too far behind economically.
They key is really to make them build their castle at home.
You can’t fight Organs sitting under his castle with LS.
Problem is your eco will suffer from building feudal army, your opponent has a defensive castle and can just 1-TC market abuse into fast imp and instantly add 4-6 feitorias for an eco boost of ~40-60 vills, without the need of building many TCs, getting lots of eco upgrades or building farms.
Longbows have a chance against them.
When the fight matters anyway ie when numbers are around 10 or so after the Portuguese player hits the castle drop.
How do you create those quick clips that you can upload so easily?
Is there a program you use other than capture age?
Want to try this with malians.
But if organs have a forward castle that they can fall back dont think even malians will work.
Maybe trush and then inf spam can work.
WDYT ?
Now i wanna see a pro try this…
I hate when people say things like “unit X sucks vs unit Y because of overkill”, like just micro the organs better?
Split them into 2 groups and use each to shoot a different LS?
Super simple stuff.
I thought janis were the counter to organs though.
Or Briton xbows.
Infantry being good?
in AoE2????
But reddit told me they were trash!
cav bombard and mangudai. 50% of this is eco too
Honestly that’s just poor play from your opponent.
Organs guns easily counter swordsmen but if you’re heavily outnumbered and at the same time have bad micro ofc you’ll lose the fight.
If you went for defensive castle and you went fast feudal maa archer your opponent should have at least 15 organs guns before you reach castle age.
Also going fast imp in such a situation is a huge mistake in decision making.
Fast imp needs a forward castle to work.
Another Umdeuter Classic
Your opponent messed up his micro.
He was moving too much, and didn’t stop often enough to shoot.

Most units do well versus other units that do not fight back.
I might give it a try sometime, but it seems to me like the main thing holding your opponent back is dropping a defensive castle.
I don’t think the organ gun feitoria strat is viable with a defensive castle.
In that first clip you had 40 LS.
You think like 20 knights wouldn’t have clapped those organs?
In the second clip same thing.
LS are better vs cheap Portugese monks I guess though.
He had to invest a tonne in getting to a unit that’s crazy expensive, which is why you did so well: he had to get to castle, build a castle before he could even start training.
So it was too slow to counter your strat
