I Delight in the Gradual Increase and Large-Scale Assaults in AI Games. Is it Possible to Reproduce This in Multiplayer Modes?

I am a recreational gamer who has had some experience with online play in the past, but it wasn’t my favorite.

I am passionate about improving my strategies and maximizing efficiency, but I don’t appreciate how quickly online games seem to end.

I have no interest in raising my Elo or playing 1v1.

I would really enjoy playing with other people, either all players or a combination of players and AI.

I prefer matches that last at least an hour, but no longer than three hours.

I’m open to different map types.

Is there a game mode or community that is suitable for someone like me?

I am not sure what my Elo is, but I am not particularly strong.

I am just looking to have some fun in a classic way.

I am not interested in any wild rules changes.

I like to start off with limited resources in the Dark Age.

Ultimately, the map and the number of players would determine the length of the game.

If you play a bit more on ranked, you’ll eventually get to an Elo where other players are doing a similar thing like you, playing casual games with slow build-up.

Its worth getting through the initial series of losses on ranked to be able to play players that play at your own level!

Playing the AI provides basically the same experience every time, where as playing PvP mostly unique or varied experiences, idk how people enjoy AI games.

I’ve definitely noticed that type of game more often in team battles than in ranked, for what it’s worth

    Have you tried death match?

Not really a slow buildup but sweeping siege definitely.

Yes and our type plays lobbies titled “diplo” or “diplomacy” or “regicide” if you ever find a lobby like that the way it works is most people ally eachother at the start, form relationships with other players, and then make enemies, based on how you play it you can either attack someone 20 minutes in, or not be attacked for up to a full 1.5 hrs.

It’s really up to how u play it!

    maybe the campaigns in coop?

most campaigns scenarios can be completed safely by turtling first, accumulating a large army, then going for the objective

I too am a casual player.

I play solo or with my brother.

We played as kids and just got back at it with the xbox release.

We are having a lot of fun!

We have been progressing through the AI difficulty and are currently winning some and losing some (2v2 on Ai hard difficulty).

That is where we are at and we enjoy the challenge, but not the slaughter of online.

We enjoy having a great defense and enjoying the match at our own pace.

Make your own lobby and can make a setting to have a treaty ( no fighting ) for however long you specified.

You can name your lobby “no aggression “ something like that.

I’m sure you will find some people to play like that

Play Michi or Amazon tunnel in custom team games.

Theyre both maps that prevent early agression and allow people to boom into hour plus games.

This is perhaps the biggest weakness of the current DE lobby system.

There’s barely any way to socially connect in the game with other people and organise what you want and for a game that was based on doing this and having a small but passionate fanbase in the past that knew each other it’s shocking to still not have such functionality.

The only feasible way to do this is to join a discord group and chat there to find like-minded people who’d be down for it.

I’d recommend either the discord group of whichever country/region you’re from or the discord group of a popular AOE2 streamer.

Using just titles in lobbies to try and filter out people that you want will be a massive chore honestly
