So I’m pretty used to regular matches in aoe now especially early game and eco but I struggle a lot with end game fights and strategies for Cba.
Any good tutorials or places to find groups where I can learn more?

Make sure you know how all UU fare up against each other, and target those weak to you.
Don’t try and over-micro, often just attack-move into a big fight works best, but you can always have a single runner to dodge the archer civs who won’t have ballistics.
Getting the razing is tricky timing, as it’s critical you get your vills, but at the same time you don’t want to feed.
Try and scout/lure out the enemy and attack the gates undefended.
Sometimes when you’re outcived or have something like Huns or Persians the best strategy is often just to rush and overwhelm.
Go straight for the castles.
Even if you feed you should win 4vs3 if you fully kill an enemy.
September 25, 2023 at 1:22 pm #47117Sp00nlordGuestYou want to play as a team and get the right people razes quickly.
Certain civs e.g Malay, Magyars you want to have vills ASAP to make units, others it’s easy to get razes like Mayans or Britons even though you don’t want to initially make units you can set up your production ans wall gates.
This is especially potent against melee civs who you can sometimes completely shut out from having vills.
In a situation where e.g one team has Vills on 4 players and the other only 2, the long game will always favour the team with access to villagers although having imperial age is huge as well.
Obviously knowing certain unit match ups is big as you can afford to not work as a team if E.g you’re right next to a civ you hard counter, (E.g Goths vs archers) but even then it can be important to recognise when you are the only civ able to fights a certain opponent.
E.g you’re the Saracens, you’re right next to an enemy who is the Tatars, sure you could destroy them, but if the enemy has Persians on the other side of the map you need to have the awareness that it’s much more valuable for you to shut down the elephants since your team will struggle a lot more with that.
A good late game strategy in spam fights is to send units in to actually kill enemy buildings and snipe vills.
Often you can ‘push’ and gain momentum by clogging up the opponent in their own base or force them to react to you, and gain map control.
It’s also usually worth building a functional unit composition yourself once you get villagers rather than making just one unit, I.e some melee units some ranged but depends on your civ.
Having some CA or arbs behind your melee unit can be really great or eagles in front of your archers.
I found in the Voobly days that actually going for castle kills with 4 players felt much more viable than it does now.
I’m not sure if it’s just because there was a higher proportion of strong razing castle civs then than now (goth, Huns, celts, etc) or what.
Seems to happen less often these days.
Don’t be afraid to split up your forces early game, making sure in a fight that you combine ranged units to do damage with melee units to tank and the power of running away are all important.
Micro is helpful when every kill is important!
