People have to stop pretending that stone walls are needed to keep melee units out.
House walls will do the job for a looooong time.
Xbows can go in, kill your vills and idle your eco, then come back and deal with the longswords.
Or even just making reinforcement xbows behind your walls while vills make houses and longswords slowly die would do the job.
Yeah you waste heaps of wood on the houses, the longsword player is losing villagers which is far far worse.
Regarding the Arson debate, I just made a post about it:
https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/126qy4x/genuine_question_and_proposal_about_arson_and_the/
gambeson +2 pierce armor
Chain Mail Armor(Castle Age technology) increases infantry armor by +1/+2
Plate Mail Armor(Imperial Age technology) increases infantry armor by +1/+1
To compensate :
Malian Barracks units pierce armor bonus reduced from +1/+2/+3 in the Feudal/Castle/Imperial Age to +1/+1/+3 in the Feudal/Castle/Imperial Age
Eagle Warrior pierce armor reduced from 3 to 2, Elite unchanged
Just remove the militia line from the game.
I cannot stand these posts anymore.
What I’d want is the same dynamic as knights and archers have.
Archers with mass or with a buffer dominate, it’s mainly when caught in the open or a decent surround happens that knights win, with the added benifit that it’s much easier to snowball with knights than with xbows.
Right now you need very few Archers to kill longswords, you can’t chase nor really run with the longswords.
Imo longswords should be slightly faster than archers, with their stats adjusted so it’s not one sided either.
I did forget to pose this question for the experienced players.
What would be the correct response when groups of +3PA LS are hitting your lumber camps and mining camps to actively prevent you from training more xbows or knights?
Especially if that player is also walled up at their base (as knights and xbows wouldn’t be able to raid effectively even if it’s just palisade and house wall)???
