I haven’t come across a civilization that I especially like yet.
What is your favorite and why?
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15331chipmunksocuteGuestI like slavs.
Love the farming bonus, tweaking castle cost is dope, good to great trash (trample halbs) amd the cheao siege is fantastic.
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15345JohnCalvinKleinGuestI have a few that are essentially tied and all for vastly different reasons;
Gurjaras for the neat eco bonus and cool looking unique unit.
Everything else about the civ is amazing too.
Poles because I’ve been obsessed with winged hussars since I got EU4 ages ago. (I’m a Poland/PLC main in that).
Bohemians because I have been to Czechia many times.
Plus their bonus to their spear line is very good.
Vikings because they’re possibly the best civ in the game and I’m mostly Norwegian heritage.
Really it depends on the type of player you are.
I have a couple of friends I play with and they’re all super noobs (can’t beat standard AI noobs).
I tell them to pick a single civ and learn it.
There’s advantages and disadvantages to all play styles, but once you nail one down, learning how to deviate from your main strategy to counter what your opponent is doing becomes much easier.
In the end it really isn’t that much about civilization because they’re almost all so well balanced.
For someone that’s new I recommend picking either archers or knight focused civs; infantry are relatively weak compared to them (some exceptions), cavalry archers are difficult to get rolling because of the high number of upgrades they need, picking a civ for a unique unit can be fun but you’ll be limited by the need for castles, elephants are expensive and require very good economic planning, so on and so forth.
For knight civilizations good choices are Franks, Lithuanians, and Teutons (honorable mention to Poles because they’re cheaper with the unique tech).
For archer civs good choices are Mayans, Britons, and Ethiopians (honorable mention to Vietnamese for their beefier archery range units).
Hope this helps.
Ps remember to always be making villagers.

I hate being housed
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15343ZuvaypGuestAztecs, love their history and also eagles go brrrrrrr
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15342SuperSelkathGuestI like Burmese because Monks are cool, Elephants are cool, and it sure would be nice to have a healer for my expensive, high HP unit.
Infantry is a favorite strategy and there’s no unit quite as fun to pilot as the Arambai.
They’re the first, second, and third most fun civ for me.
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15341avioaneGuestSpanish because you can drop a castle in their face (preferably in range of their TC) that builds faster so it has a high chance of completing, so not only you kill their TC but you start to build conquistadors, which are considered to be the best unit in castle age, fast and with 6 range, with a little micro it can kite many units.
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15340otropatoGuestI like Bulgarians because of the free militia line upgrade, kreposts and the Koniks’ *thud*.
Plus, cheap upgrades and siege.
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15339Cultural_Parfait7866GuestRandom is the way but Cumans because Kipchek raid is underrated and Bulgarians cause Krepost rush can be strong
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15338Parrotparser7GuestI personally like civs with good monks, buildings, and similar support options.
I’d be a Bohemians main if I could make them work, but I’m just floating around for now.
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15337redditpeep210GuestMagyars, not the best, especially ecowise, but so much fun to play.
Used to be Incas but since they lost the vill armour in feudal age they are less fun.
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15336leapingsalmon1GuestI don’t play them as much but my all time favorite is still Sicilians, they’ve got a great scout rush due to reduced bonus damage and can compete with quite a few camel and archer civs, especially with their unique tech.
Also, if you like castle drops, the super fast TC and castle build can be great defensively and offensively.
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15335NotQuiteBlackkGuestSpanish
Conquistadors
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15334SuDi10298GuestI just like Dravidians cause I’m from the southern region of India lol.
Sometimes, I get too attached while playing since I basically play this game like an RTS RPG.
When I lose I have tears in my eyes while saying ” FORGIVE ME, FOR I HAVE FAILED TO CONQUER OUR FOE” to my population while contemplating my entire existence.
ALSO, I like the aesthetics of the civ.
February 24, 2023 at 5:31 pm #15333Shadow_Strike99GuestMy big 4 has always been Berbers, Byzantines, Saracens, and Mayans and I always rotate these 4 every single game.
