Every few days, I seem to become enamored with a particular civilization, and this time it’s the Malay.

Please share your best advice for playing as the Malay, especially when it comes to using elephants, which they are quite adept at.

When applying standard build orders, add 3 vils to that, so 22 pop archers becomes 25 etc.

Take advantage of your faster uptimes for big power spikes – arb or first treb in Imp, knights/eles/xbows in Castle etc, you can even go for a really fast scouts although your eco will be a bit ropey as your vils aren’t collecting res between ages for as long.

If you’re going for eles (and why not, they’re great) you should assume that pikes or monks are coming soon, so try and pre-empt that.

Get a workshop down for scorps (you want a head start on scorps before they’re effective) or light cav upgrade for monks.

Or, in a perfect world, keep some xbows alive.

Archers into eles is a good play for Malay for this reason because then you have your pre-built pike counter.

Ban all the open land maps and you get a very strong civ.

There’s a particular 15 elephants at 15 min which can be a surprise castle age attack you can try.

Otherwise a good go to Imp strat would be to go Trash Swordsmen + Arbs and BBCs.

    Great naval eco.

Karambits sound cool on paper but mehhhh.

And yeah apart from that castle age elephant surprise you’d almost never wanna use their stable.

It’s just one step higher than the Dravidian Stable which is called a stable for namesake xD

But I’m personally not a Malay fan as they’re not a quality civ like Franks Teutons Japanese which have atleast one super sturdy and bulky troop, probably the stuff I dig for…

But I’ll leave you with that.

    Spam karambit behind the lines.

    Make ele and archers/skirms.

    Beware of monks.

Win water and make fish traps.

When adjusting your dark age build with malay, most people struggle to know what to adjust.

Sure theres the common advice of “24 pop with malay is like 21.5 pop with other civ”

But usually players mess up timing of barracks.

i found a simple solution to that.

Just add 1 more to wood than usual, at around 15 pop timing.

So if going scouts, add 4th to wood when u are 15 pop.

If doing archers, add 5th to wood when 15 pop
