The recent patch brought a new map generation for Arabia without woods, which many players find enjoyable since it eliminates the need for defensive strategies.
However, I can’t help but wonder why it is considered boring to have “One Trick Pony” defensive players, but not as boring to have “One Trick Pony” all-in (offensive) players?
Personally, I prefer maps that allow for a variety of strategies and styles of play, rather than forcing players to adopt a single approach.
I don’t think it’s fun to have all games played in the same way, whether it be full wall or full all-in.
Wish they would remove ponds from player woodlines.
It’s especially horrible if you get more than one, or if they are forward.
The main gold and stones are to the back and there’s a stone to the side and a mediocre wood line to the other side.
How is this ‘all forward’ or a new gen?
You have to draw the line somewhere, and your idea of ‘balanced’ is as arbitrary as anyone else’s.
Some people might think arena or Yucatan has the balance right.
Others might think any map that is possible to wall at all is too defensive.
I’m not saying I think it is better either way, I’m just saying your idea that it is wrong because it is not ‘balanced’ for different playstyles anymore has nothing to do with other people’s playstyles and is purely because of your own preference.
I assume the devs watch the meta and have decided there is too much defensive play.
Is there actually a chance in the pup notes or are you just assuming there was a change based on couple of games?

Just play like Viper.
No/few walls, learn to defend and try to enjoy that playstyle.
Thx to elo you will face equal matchups anyway (and who cares about the elo number), as a sideeffect you learn valuable skills other arabia players wont have 🙂
If it means dropping down the ladder a bit, who cares?

Arabia used to be the most “meta” land map, and I think that’s a big part of why it became the single most popular map out there.
Isn’t the map preference something like 75% Arabia, 20% Arena, 5% everything else or something like that?
I personally would like to see Arabia become what made it so good in the first place again:
* No ponds, ever.
* Exactly three starting woodlines per player, no more than one screen away and a decent size.Maybe tournaments could have a more advanced version like KOTD already has, but for the many new players now joining the game with the xbox release, I’d really like the standard map to become slightly more of what made it so popular in the first place.
If I want water, I’ll play a water map.
If I want to have to adapt to unknown map conditions, I’ll pick megarandom or something.
Another day on which I’m glad that I have Arabia banned from my map pool!
I’m all in for ponds, Arabia originally had those and they add a new obstacle to overcome with walling.
But they should have been balanced for both sides by now and should always have 2 layers of wood around them.
So nothing like in this picture, this is just a bad place to have a lumber camp and the fish is just…

I was so confused about my map being so open last night.
Looks like the same dogwater generation I’ve been getting for literal ages.
This ain’t new buddy.
I always get shitty most all resources in front with no back wood completely open on Arabia.
Its no fun.
There’s no new generation layout, this is just a map that happens sometimes.
Have you tried playing Black Forest?
