Anonymous PlayerMemberHi fellow sheep herders,
I have been playing Age of Empires 2 casually for a few years since it was released, and I recently got back into it and am having a great time. I would like to expand my RTS horizons a bit and would like to know which other RTS games you, fellow AOE2 players, enjoy playing today? I’m open to all types of resource management, micro managing units, and strategies, so any input is appreciated.
I have played a bit of Empire Earth in the past, although I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as AOE2. I did have fun with the plane/air defense stuff, just because planes are cool.
I would really appreciate your suggestions. Thanks!
Edit: What RTS games do you enjoy?

vvneagleoneGuestThis game occupies far too much of my free time and takes up far too much of my available mental energy for me to even try to play any other video games, let alone other RTSes.

BlockliesGuestMy other non rts but similar to aoe2 (build empire style game) game is polytopia, pretty fun game but the ai is terrible and doesn’t cheat so it’s just steamrolled by an early rush.
All the civs (tribes) start with a tech in the tech tree (even if you need to research something before that tech, but you don’t get the prerequisite tech) and different map generation for their territory like more forests for the bardur and little easily gatherable resources for vengir.
Also there’s 1 resource, and the only place you can create units is from cities you start with or conquer (start unclaimed) and there’s no vills, you instead get res from upgrading your towns by collecting nearby resources (berries, mines, fish) at the cost of stars, each resource adds 1 point to the city and you need an increasing number of points to upgrade to city for every upgrade you get.

Educational_Goal_940GuestKind of niche, but back in the days I had a lot of fun playing Sudden Strike and it’s extension “Sudden Strike Forever”.
I doubt that the game is still active by now, but I didn’t check.
