I feel like you need to watch some low elo legends by T90
Are…
are you me?
We used to do that back in the day *a lot* in AOE, a little less with AOE2.
My buddy’s office was the spot of choice; I’m sure no small number of his employees would wonder the following Monday, “Why the heck is this on my computer?”
Do you remember your first MMO?
It was the best one ever.
It’s just nostalgia my dude but I get it.
I do that once a week with a couple of buddies.
Random map, random civs, 300 pop and just duke it out all evening.
oh, the good old days..
i remember
when i just did market stuff and full eco, just to save my king in my friends castle on an island when we were playing 2v5 and he just fortified the shit out of his castle
they had no chance 😀
I never had that…
A friend introduced me to AoE and threw me straight into MS Zone, after showing me how to get a nice Archer Rush with Britons (I still have the BO written by 13/14 y/o me in a notebook).
For years, I played the old AI on moderate and hard modes.
My strategy usually involved building up defenses and using castles to overcome waves of enemies until I was strong enough to push them out.
Then I tried doing that online.
Completely forgetting that the weaker AI doesn’t use trebuchets, but even lower level players do.
My castles went down quickly.
Now I have to pay attention to counters and what not.
the only aoe-ing I do is hop on with my friend, load up amazon tunnel, 2v2 vs ai, 45 minute treaty with turbo mode.
Picking poles and making 14000 winged hussars in one game is really fun (also listening to ‘winged hussars’ by sabaton on loop)
I know it’s brainless, I know it removes a lot of strategy, and I know it’s teaching awful habits, but damn is it really fun
take me back to ‘99, didn’t know wtf a build order was.
teutons were my fave cos TKs looked badass
edit: ditto pokémon before everyone started talking about EVs and IVs and the magic disappeared
I honestly regret ever searching up any aoe2 related information online.
I’m 22 now and aoe2 is the first game I’ve ever played.
My dad introduced it to me when I was still a toddler and we’d screw around vs AI or play against each other at 4 am (he won every time obviously).
it was the most fun I’ve had with aoe2
I started playing again 2 years ago and now we can’t even play together anymore.
I’m simply too good.
He’s a mouse only player that have no idea what’s ‘efficient’ and I’d have to consciously throw the game to have an equal playing field.
MSN Gaming Zone vibes
That’s still the only way I play 20ish years later, a game under two hours feels fast to me.
No.
Because I still do this.
I mainly just play Co-op vs the A.I.
with my buddies and see how many AI’s we can take down.
Yes.
Much more fun/interesting to me than games where it’s who can follow exact same order/strategy 10 seconds faster.
You can still do that though
