I really miss the times before competitive gaming and ranking systems.
Gatherings with friends to play, with everyone hunkering down and sending out hordes of soldiers and horses in a deadlock until one of us ran out of resources.
Games could easily last for three hours or more.
I play against my friends like once a year.
The.
End up castle dropping on their face with a bunch of forward production and they say “I’m never playing this game again”
What stops you from doing this?
I mess around too in ranked, mostly lose but it’s especially fun when you win 🙂
That’s how I still play ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Low ELO legends is a testament that many people still play in ignorant bliss even on ladder 😂
That’s how my friend and I play to this day.
Just us against the AI no pressure.
Having a time.
AoE2 LAN parties are why I started learning basic networking as a kid, had the house set up with 4-6 of us spread through a few rooms.
Everyone pass the CD around to load the game!
Still play semi-regularly online with friends (typically AI stomp), never bothered with ranked.
Sure there are some who deride us for playing 20+-year-old games, but I just like it.
I was making own build orders anyway.
The only difference is efficiency and skill.
If I was 20 years older with more gameplay experience they would be also efficient.
No, because it’s boring and takes 10x as long for same amount of action.
Happy cake day!
Well never had LAN parties so can’t relate there.
But I still have weird casual games with friends and most don’t bother with any specific build order.
It’s just mindless fun.
*…until somebody runs out of [Dr.
Pepper].
This guy just described every Clown Legion game I’ve ever seen Dave cast.
Yeah, there was still judgement and ranking, but instead of doing it with a number it was just this fuzzy concept in your head that you got playing with the same group of friends over and over and just getting to know what they were capable of.
That’s the true way to play
