Do Rams Have the Power to Combat Castles When Supported by Towers in Clash of Clans?

The main form of defense for a castle is its own attack power.

It can cause a lot of destruction and has a large reach.

If you send rams to try and take it down, they won’t be successful, however, other units, such as petards, can be extremely effective in taking it down.

To try and overcome the castle, you could drop a tower or two, station crossbows within them, and send a ram in from a different direction.

This might be enough to defeat the enemy’s castle with the help of longswords.

The only thing that could stop this would be the use of mangonels or stored petards.

Additionally, the Korean Castle Tactics and the Bohemian Unique Unit provide an ideal platform to fight under castle fire.

I feel like that the enemy can just ignore the towers and go for the rams with any melee unit.

Or repair castle while researching murder holes.

    Can it work?

Probably yes if your opponent doesnt see it coming or doesnt react properly to it.

    Is it a good strategy?

Definitly not because it requires massive investment and is a total waste if your opponent responds somehow properly.

    So risk/reward is absolutly terrible

Towers get extra damage from castle for some reason, so u have to put it too far, and if castle have melee UU both tower and rams will be hard countered

Battering rams are feudal technology available in castle age.

They die horribly to knights which are also pretty much resistant to towers.

You can garrison pikes to make use of them but the investment gets too high, you would rather go imp.

The way they did with Cumans seems good but I doubt the devs will change a core AoC mechanic for every civ.

If they did, I would theorycraft about that with pleasure

Castle shreds towers, petards will still kill rams

Plus how are you gonna get the towers up …

    How would this work?

Wouldn’t this require you to build the tower close enough to the castle that the tower’s range indicators is just on the edge of the castle in order to cover the rams?

I’m not certain about for castles and towers, but I know for a fact that with TCs, they can hit buildings that are in the tile just outside their range; I know this because it’s a very important detail for TC drops.

If the same is true for towers and castles, then that means the castle will always be able to range the tower of the castle has the same or more range upgrades as the tower.

1 mangonel on the far side of the castle and your offensive is crushed.

And if you build the towers close enough to the castle, upon imp, any enemy civ with bracer can range the 2 towers as well.

    Yikes

Personally I would rather just avoid the castle and try to raid exposed eco.

The wait for imp to hit it with siege ram or trebs.

Killing a castle in castle age is a pain.
