Difficulties Starting Gameplays Since Three Days Ago

Recently, I have been watching a lot of T90 videos and this inspired me to reinstall the game, which I haven’t played in 14 years.

I completed all the tutorials and challenges, which helped me understand the basics of the game, but after playing about 10 games (a mix of ranked and quick play, both 1v1 and 2v2), I only got to play properly in one game.

My teammates or opponents would resign or go afk for no reason.

In the one game where I got to play, I was rushed and struggled to get troops on the field.

It doesn’t seem like I will improve any time soon if I have to spend three hours playing for one constructive game.

Can anyone recommend a scrim discord or anything where I can play with players close to my level who won’t quit the game instantly?

So, if youre really just starting the game, i would not play 2v2s unless you find someone else around your skill level to consistently play with. 1v1s are better for learning and testing.

The first several ranked 1v1s you play are really just “calibration” games to put you into an ELO range where your skill level correlates.

So if youre new you are probably going to lose for a little while until youre at the right skill range.

My advice: just stick with it.

Practice against the AI, play some ranked.

Get familiar with the game and youll be addicted.

When you say you played the challenges, do you mean to say you completed Art of War with medals?

Just completing it doesn’t mean anything without the timings, especially for the basic eco setup stuff.

Regarding your second question, team game matchmaking can be a little problematic, but 1v1 matchmaking is pretty good once you get past the initial 10 or so games to get your correct elo.

The official aoe2 discord has a channel to find unranked games.

    Don’t use quick play.

Just go ranked 1v1 and you should get proper games 90+% of the time.

Expect to lose a lot of games at the start, once your Elo drops enough you will get balanced matches and can start to slowly improve from there.

Try to get through 10 games of ranked.

After this you’ll be given a elo.

Eventually you find players at your skill level but you may have to lose a bunch of games first.

You absolutely should look up dark age build orders as the most basic ones can be used with almost every civ.
