Hey there, it’s the “next Hera” (just kidding!).

I was wondering if there’s a clear path to becoming a professional AoE2 player.

Do players mainly need to focus on climbing the ladder and getting invited to tournaments, or are there other ways to achieve it?

I’m bringing this up because I’ve noticed that the same players tend to dominate most of the competitive AoE2 events.

Once these players retire or move on, will there be new players to take their place?

    Let’s discuss it.

    Many tournaments have qualifying rounds.

So paying attention to tournament announcements and how to qualify is the official path

The two tournaments one would probably be most interested in are T90Official’s Titan League.

Where you can get into the Silver League and win promotion to the Platinum League.

The other is Jordan’s Medieval Brawl.

I don’t know the specifics but both use elo as a qualifier in some capacity.

I feel and im pretty sure we get the same players because it’s as simple as they are the best and if you want to get noticed my opinion would be to yeah grind out that ELO get to what 2.5k plus then start smashing the top ten and I’m sure you’ll get into those tournaments but like these guys playing like 100+ games a week probably second nature to them most of it you basically gotta become the game haha

The way to the top is through qualifiers.

Depending on the tournament, there are some invited players and some players who go through quals.

If you want to go to a tournament, get high enough ladder rank to be eligible for quals and then earn your slot.

At NAC IV following names went through qualifiers: ACCM Villese Yo Jordan Nicov Vinchester.

To make it into the tournament, you would have to take their spot, which means beating one of them (and other good players) during quals.

Play a shit-tonne and grind your way up.

Once you break into the Top 20 of Random 1v1 ranked you will start to be noticed.

Do you have what it takes?

    Who knows…

but the guys in the top 20 have been playing for years and play a shit-tonne…

so trying to crack into it will be tough.

Tangentially related, Margougou is becoming a top player and he only started playing with DE’s release a few years back.

And it should probably go without saying that he plays a ton.
