I just completed the initial tutorial mission of William Wallace and was extremely impressed with the controller support.
It was not merely a basic mapping of keyboard to controller; the creators completely redesigned the UI to make the RTS experience on consoles enjoyable.
It is clear that a controller cannot replace a mouse and keyboard for competitive gaming, however, for casual players, this is an incredible feature.
Some may argue that the automation of villagers is too much, however, I believe this was the only practical way to make controller support possible.
I am hopeful for the future of the multiplayer community, yet only time will tell how successful it will be.
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10512SpectralLogicGuestcan you use the controller support on the PC version of the game?
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10520mrbojingleGuestI agree that some automation is needed but i think auto build order was not it personally.
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10519Bleee223GuestI downloaded this on PC gamepass, was hoping to give the controller a shot.
Is controller play only available on the xbox version?
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10518Manchild8485GuestAnyway to move the camera around the map faster?
Maybe I missed it but moving around the map to see the action is painfully slow
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10517SPJessGuestNot gonna lie.
I was super nervous to play on console.
Because I love this game and didn’t wanna hate it.
The thing about the automation is its annoying to keep your bills on track.
And I I find the controller side of things much harder than mouse and keyboard to take out a Boar.
But with the early game villager priorities.
You can get to feudal age in like 10 minutes(I can get to feudal in 12 minutes in console)
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10516SuperAndy117GuestSomeone else tell me if they have figured this one out.
So in the William of wallace 4th mission it used “advanced interface” controls and with this you press LB when selected units and you can assign them to control groups and use them in there as show in the tutorial.

Outside of that one missions is there anyway to use control groups?
I simply cannot find it anywhere I’m losing my mind.
Pressing LB now just brings up the find menu no more control groups.
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10515ShieldsAndSpearsGuestJust finished the William Wallace campaign/tutorial.
The controller was a little funky at first.
After you figure it out though, you get used it and they did a fantastic job with implementing it.
The auto resource gather is nice, sometimes annoying but nice.
You also have the option to turn automation off.
Overall very pleased with the console version.
Stoked to whoop some PC ass.
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10514Cubanboy33GuestI played lot of times Call of duty and Battlefield series on controller with crossplay man.
Dont afraid!
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10513XhaerGuestChecked out someone streaming it and yeah, the control scheme is amazing for casual players.
The ring menus are great.
Options are cleanly displayed, to the point where a brand new player was learning to use features it took me dozens of games to even discover.
And this guy was brand new – he kept putting his mills next to his lumber camps.
I was like, why would he…
OHH THEY’RE PERFECTLY PLACED SAWMILLS
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10511cornhogGuestI wish the PC/Steam version got it :/
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10510ElekantGuesti dont know if anyone knows the answers, im wondering if its possible for steam users to try out the new controller support, obviously ive had the game for a while but i have a few friends who are on xbox who are going to play and i would love to share the controller learning experience with them
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10509nice-tits69GuestOn the Xbox are you able to use keyboard and mouse?
I just downloaded and am trying to use them but the option for me is greyed out
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10508dj0wnsGuestI just completed the tutorial and it was pretty smooth.
Im a big fan, cant wait to hit ladder
February 8, 2023 at 10:56 pm #10507VagrantShadowGuestI’m excited to try this on the controller today.
This is my take, I will always have a love for M&K for AoE.
However, I feel this is a good compromise if it allows the RTS genre regain popularity, expand, and to grow with the casual gamer market.
I’d love to see a future where we get to see an AoE V or an Age of Mythology II, because of the expanded popularity of the games on PC and Xbox.
It would be a win/win for us as gamers, both PC and console.
