Choose Randomly: Foot Soldier Civilization, Cavalry Civilization, Archer Civilization

    Hey everyone, wouldn’t it be awesome to have a button that randomly selects a civilization with a specific purpose? I often find myself in the situation where I want to play random in team games, but I want cavalry when playing as a pocket and archers when playing as a flank. It would be great if there was a random button that selects a civ with completely upgraded gold units. Additionally, it would be helpful for laddering, when practicing openings like scouts into fast castle or archers into fast castle. What do you think? It might be difficult to define the line for some civilizations. What would be done with civilizations from the Mesoamerica region?

    Yeah! I like your idea. Moreover, in other random selection style: we could select some civs and then the ‘random’ choose between them.

    The game is bad at choosing what a civ is. Burmese is a monk/ele civ but have one of the best halbs in the game.

    Japanese is an infantry civ even though they get fully upgraded arbs.

    Malians are also an infantry + cav civ because of farimba.

    Having something like this integrated into the game would be nice, but you can get the same effect just using the website.

    Id say “missing none or only one upgrade” would make more sense. Otherwise Vikings wouldnt be an archer civ, Goths not an infantry civ, Khmer not a cavalry civ, but even still Poles would be an archer instead of a cav civ.

    One would have to manually classify them, so it would be best to just create your own list of civs. And well at that point you can just create your own little random generator to achieve this.

    There are too many civs that don’t fall into these neat categories.

    What would be nice, though, is something similar than how you can set random map pools in custom matches. You select which maps you want to include, and the game picks you one randomly out of those.

    It’s not in game but there is https://aoe-rcs.com which I think you would really like. The added bonus is that it can remember which random civs you already got so you slowly cycle through all of them.

    You could just do this yourself. Categorise the Civs, put them in a spreadsheet and let a random number generator chose.

    Some civs are labeled as a cav/archer/infantry civ but dont really fit their label tho

    You can go double feudal scouts if you want, it’s a refreshing change.
