I have recently experienced a toxic player in a 1v1 ranked game on Xbox who exploited the pause button to gain an advantage.
After I made a push on their base, they kept pausing the game and taunting me for 45 minutes until I destroyed their villagers.
This type of behavior should not be tolerated in ranked games.
I am hoping to bring awareness to this issue and find ways to work around it.
I thought there was a limit to how many times a player could pause the game, but apparently it is infinite.
If anyone has any advice on how to avoid this situation or what I may have done wrong, I would appreciate it.
I am only 1050 ELO.
They’re supposed to have a limit of 10 pauses.
But I have been hearing there are bugs where people get around this somehow, not sure if the Xbox version works differently here.
If somebody is pause spamming me, I just take it as I kicked their ass and they are salty and I move on.
Even when there used to be a pause limit, I ain’t playing the pause unpause game I’ll just resign.
I had an opposite experience.
My game froze and lava bugged like 8 vils in.
I Paused and asked for a second to figure out what happened but the dude just unpaused immediately so we went back and forth until I chatted there are 8 vils scattered across the map.

He then apologized, I explained what happened and then resigned.
That’s not something that commonly happens, thankfully.
What I hate is when I have to pause the game and the idiot on the other side immediatelly unpauses…
I’ve had this happen to me as well and was faced with community members who insist there are a limited number of pauses for each player.
This is clearly not the case, however, so it seems the devs at some point unfortunately decided to remove the pause limit that was once in the game which leads to stupid situations like this.
it has been a long time since this happened to me, but i feel like in the past they only allowed like 3 or 4 pauses in a row before it didn’t let them pause anymore, but that was on PC, not XBOX.
Honestly I feel like this is also a symptom of the lack of team game map bans.
Ie if you force me to play a map I dont really wanna play, the last thing I want is to wait 5 minutes for someone who pauses.
Usually when someone here says they unpaused after 5 mins… it wasn’t 5 minutes.
If you unpaused without chatting and asking what’s up and giving proper time, the toxic behavior is kind of on you… you unpaused it first, he came back to the game ongoing and it obviously looked like you cheated by doing that.
You may not have intended that, but what *feels like* 5 minutes while waiting and what actually is 5 minutes are very different.
Especially if you unpaused without first questioning things and so on.
Unless the dude was dead, his triggered behaviour and his attics makes sense.
