I’m very intrigued by all these badass infantry armies we bout to see shred peeps
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23459MrJrHopeGuestAnyone have a link to the changes?
Can’t seem to find it when googling for it
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23457IronKaiserGamingGuestTop 3 Winners:
Goths: I predict the 20% extra hunt will huge for improving the Goth’s viability.
This is a really great early game bonus, which is what the Goths desperately needed.
Dravidians: Not only has infantry play been buffed with Gambesons, but the new siege wood discount is going to be massive, I think.
It’ll be easier to get out mangonels alongside archers, or a mass of ~~battering rams~~ scorpions to help your infantry push.
Spanish: I think the Inquisition buff is going to make Missionaries a viable, more popular unit in the Spanish arsenal.
Faster, tankier healers and converters will be amazing.
And I think the gold bonus is deceptively nice at getting an early military ball rolling.
Conquistadors have been nerfed, but I think this will overall be a buff for the Spanish.
(Honorable mention: Vikings.
Very cool UT changes.
Berserkergang is rolled into the elite upgrade, and the new Bogsveigar might make Viking archer play meta again.
We’ll have to see…)
Top 3 Losers:
Burgundians: This nerf specifically hit the Flem.
Revolution, and it got hit hard.
The tech is going to cost more (unless you’re using it as a Hail Mary on a weak eco), and the militia themselves are significantly weaker (-15HP, -1 attack, -1 Pierce armor).
A well-earned nerf.
Lithuanians: they used to get +150 food, now every TC gives you 100 food.
This technically means more food in the long run, but curbing the bonus food you start with will have a significant impact on the smoothness and eco options of the early game.
Britons: The team bonus nerf to the Britons will have a significant impact on their ability to mass up archers.
They’re still going to be one of the strongest archer civs in the game, but this’ll give opponents a little more breathing room to respond before the archer ball becomes a deathball.
Honorable mention: Portuguese.
Organ Guns got nerfed hard, particularly in one important way – they do significantly less damage to mangonels, which now counter organ guns very effectively.
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23456mesqueunclub69GuestWinners: Incas, Goths, Vikings
Losers: Sicilians 11 but also Persians.
I’d say Celts did not get anything substantial either so they will still be stuck in bottom 5.
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23455WearyConflict3603GuestBiggest winners are Incas with good TG bonus and very good new cost reduction bonus.
Biggest losers are Gurjaras with increased Kshatriyas cost and slight nerf to Shrivamsha Riders.
They are still strong but a step in right direction.
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23454dcdemirarslanGuestPersians Huns Turks
STEPPE LANCERS PLEASE
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23453TobenbertGuestWhere can I read it?
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23452malefiz123GuestGoth and/or Inca will be the biggest winners.
Extra food in DA will be a sizeable eco bonus, Goth lame is going to be even more terrifying.
Inca Infantry spam will be crazy as well.
Champs/Eagles/Kamayuk will just slap.
Mayans definitely got hit hard, for the reasons you mentioned.
Britons are a big loser as well, just looking at team game performance.
But honestly Sicilians got the short end of the stick again:
– Castle build speed directly nerfed
– Last Crusade reworked to be cheaper and give less Serjeants.
Effectively also a nerf, imo.
The one thing about Last Crusade is that you suddenly have a overwhelming number of them on the field.
– Spears in Donjons will make no difference, as they introduced no reason to actually go for Donjons.
Why would I create spears from them if I can just make a barracks?
– Serjeants elite upgrade price reduction is a decent buff
– Milita line buff is effectively a Serjeant nerf, as their PA was a reason to go for them.
They put a barracks unit in the Donjon and then gave Sicilians reasons to make Barracks instead of Donjons
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23451thedboyGuestBiggest loser might be Turks, not benefitting from any of the infantry buffs since no Pikeman and no Gambesons, while also having Artillery become more expensive.
Incas get a bunch of buffs that will make them quite strong I think.
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23450preemptivePacifistGuestDravidians were quite decent before and absolutely love all these infantry changes- they also got a direct buff (siege discount) tohelp them get to lategame…
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23449PBdLGuestThe Spanish buff with 20gold for any tech looks insane, i’m curious to see in game.
Same for the viking with chieftains
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23448UmdeuterGuestIncas and Malians are easy A Tier now which is awesome.
Goth probably B which is also good.
I can’t see too crazy nerfs though.
Probably Aztecs?
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #2344729RogansGuestwe really need to stop nerf sicilians meme, devs getting it wrong =D
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23446rattatatouilleGuestIncas look good.
Their team bonus went from worst ever to okay to really good.
They get cheaper units food-wise which is nice because their core units all cost food (though their Eagles don’t benefit as much).
Malay get the new tech so their trash 2Hs now have 4/6 armor which is pretty good.
They also get infantry armor upgrades for free making for an interesting M@A-Archers build.
Malians have a few buffs too.
They miss out on Gambeson but are still +2PA relative to other civs for their militia line, the Gbeto can take a hit or two more, and the upgraded Tigui makes defending bases a bit easier.
Still a fantastic generalist civ.
March 26, 2023 at 7:09 am #23445oslice89GuestGoth infantry didn’t benefit from the general infantry changes aside from the decreased research time of their upgrades while other civs had their infantry become relatively better, so their infantry flood still folds to the usual counters including higher-quality infantry.
The extra 200ish food after taking all of the hunt allows Goths to put off placing farms a bit longer and more comfortably fit Horse Collar in after a M@A rush, but it definitely doesn’t feel insane.
It’s definitely not “35% infantry discount in Dark Age” levels of impactful from the games I’ve played on the PUP.
I’d recommend playing the PUP to see for yourself though.
