I think they are extremely beginner friendly.

Their xbows/arbs may not be the best for pros, but for beginners, their xbows are brutal.

in castle age, one of the best counters vs xbows is mangonels, Because they have the same range, the xbow player must be very careful as they engage vs the mangonel because one shot could kill half the xbows.

However, with good micro (even without splitting), a group of say 15-20 xbows can still take on a mangonel or 2.

However, with britons, it is much easier due to the extra range.

A single mangonel can be killed after it fires it’s first shot without much trouble.

the 1 range advantage will allow a Briton xbows to easily defeat enemy xbows who will take a lot of casualties just trying to close the distance.

Yes Britons don’t have thumb ring, but that is not a tech that is researched in early castle anyways so early on doesn’t matter.

In imp, the range disparity grow to 3 (11 vs 8 !!!).

This means even FU Ethiopian arbs will get absolutely crumped if both sides patrol into each other.

With no micro whatsoever, and 40 vs 40 arbs, the Britons player will win with about 20 arbs left.

If the britons player micros just a bit, they can usually kill all 40 Ethiopian arbs and lose only a handful of their own

The range also makes onagers a non issue as the onagers won’t even be able to close the gap, even with siege engineers researched.

Even bombard canons without siege engineers are easily killed by the briton arbs.

The other reason why britons are good for beginners I feel is the cheaper TC which allow the building of 2 extra TC in castle age and still leave enough wood to be able to continue producing arbs.

    I agree with you.

I think people think “beginner players should learn a one trick cav civ and a one trick archer civ”.

The cav civ is obviously Franks (who actually are an incredibly beginner-friendly civ) so the obvious archer civ is Britons.

But you’re absolutely right that Ethiopians bonuses are a lot more beginner friendly
