Recently, I began playing this game and have been having a lot of fun.
I usually play against the AI on the standard difficulty setting, and they are quite easy to beat.
But when I switched up to moderate difficulty, I got absolutely trounced!
I watched some tutorials that gave me a better understanding of the game, but not how to win.
When I play on coastal, I usually make it to the feudal age first about 90% of the time.
However, when I try to focus on getting to castle age first, I often get my docks attacked or fail to reach the castle age early.
What can I do to improve my game?

Learn build orders.
To get past moderate AI, pick any fast Castle build and run with it (or even all in Feudal scouts will get you through Moderate with a bit of practic)
February 1, 2023 at 3:40 pm #7654NiNjArzGuestA few tips in no order:
* AoE2 has all this many bits and pieces of important information, make sure you take time in between each game to read up what units, civs and techs do.
* Understanding your game plan and master your build order accordingly.Players who reach feudal age early, usually hit castle age late.
Understanding how many villagers you need on what resource will greatly improve your times advancing through the ages.
* Start using hotkeys to improve your micro. In the ideal world, your town center must never be idle, it should always produce new villagers to research a technology.
To produce a villager from your towncenter start using H (go to towncenter), followed by Q (produce a villager).
Make a habit of hitting HQ every time you have a spare moment.
Secondly, when selecting a villager use Q,Q to build a house.
* Youtubers like T90, Spirit of the Law and Survivalist are among my favorites to learn.
* Last but not least, it all comes down to practice, practice, practice.February 1, 2023 at 3:40 pm #7655Embarrassed-Bus-8591GuestAdvancing first is not always the best idea.
Building up your economy is often preferable to advance as fast as possible.
The Art of War campaigns are really where you want to start.
February 1, 2023 at 3:40 pm #7656insta_eugenociderGuestpractice build orders on hard ai and learn team lineups compositions positions on teamgames ideally 4s on arabia.

learn some build orders [https://www.morleygames.co.uk/aoe2-generic-build-orders/](https://www.morleygames.co.uk/aoe2-generic-build-orders/)
2.set up good hotkeys the viper,Hera and, Spirit of the law has videos on this
3.get proper upgrades for your units and make proper counter units.
4.If you not saving for something always spend your resources if you bank up to much wood make a stable or a farm.
If you have to much gold and food make a knight or etc.
5.
always produce villagers, the expectation to this rule is if your idling to get enough food to the next age
6.
Know How to adapt your eco—-Look at you civs tech tree , and look at the cost of units and upgrades for that unit.
For example if you are britons it will tell you this is an archer civ and most civs bonuses are helpful for archers.
The cost of an archer is 20 wood and gold 45.
So this tells you that your economy should be set up in a way that prioritizes wood and gold because that is the resources of what your producing.
Don’t neglect farms entirely as archer upgrades like flecthing, bodkin arrow, the upgrades from archer to crossbow, etc cost food, is just isn’t as urgent as if you were producing scouts or knights or infantry.
