I’m so accustomed to the earlier renditions of the game that would have the player’s name and civilization listed, so it’s been somewhat perplexing for me to only have the symbol now, particularly in CBA where the bonuses and pieces are so important.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?
January 30, 2023 at 1:07 am #6405andrasq420GuestEven Viper keeps opening the diplo screen to keep checking his enemies and allies so I think it’s alright to do so.
Also I haven’t played the game in a few weeks but I’m sure that when selecting a unit it still says the civ in a bracket.

There is a mod that puts letters over the civ emblem, so you’d see “MON” for “Mongols” instead of the Mongol civ emblem.
2.You could try testing yourself how many civ emblems you actually know.
You’d be surprised that you probably know quite some of them!
I tested myself with [https://aoe2techtree.net/](https://aoe2techtree.net/#Aztecs) where I’d click on any unit/technology and then click on “Advanced Stats” and that would show me all 42 civ emblems.
Now I can click on any of them and it would send me to that civ’s techtree where I could see the name.
I noticed that I actually already know 60+% of all the civ emblems, and then I just gave myself 10-15 more minutes and tried to learn the rest of them, and repeated that a few times.
Since then I know all of them and thats pretty cool and I was surprised how easy that was (Im usually not good at memorizing stuff).

Your brain is better equipped to remember symbols than words and abbreviations.
January 30, 2023 at 1:07 am #6408stickycartGuestIn addition to what the others have said, some symbols are actually still used today by many of the civ successors.
The gold trident used in the Slavs emblem is the current coat of arms for Ukraine for example.
Lithuania still has nearly the same emblem for their armed forces, and Poland’s emblem is pretty much their current coat of arms.
There are more examples but those are some that stand out.

January 30, 2023 at 1:07 am #6411Gingerbread2296GuestThere are mods available that give the initials over top of the logo
January 30, 2023 at 1:07 am #6412BlockliesGuestThere’s a mod which puts letters over the symbols so for example I’d your opponent is cumans their icon has a CU over it.
If you think that mod is ugly you can just look at the selection screen for an hour.
Some of the symbols are on current flags too (Portuguese, mongols, Turks, franks technically, etc.)
January 30, 2023 at 1:07 am #6413raf8465Guesti use a mod that add an UU picture instead
January 30, 2023 at 1:07 am #6414anzu3278GuestKnew most of them already from EU4, learned others fairly quickly but maybe it was easier for me cos I already played before DE and the symbols came out so I knew what civs existed.
