Arabian Bohemian Hussite Reforms

I have been playing Bohemians on Arabia and have noticed that even when I’m in a good spot, I’m not able to get much out of the trash monk tech.

In theory, it should be easy to win with them, but it’s not working out when I face a 40-paladin (with faith) army or micromanaged mamelukes.

They seem ineffective in this situation.

I usually use monks in the early castle and early imperial stages when the army sizes are small, and this is when they’re most effective.

Does anyone have any advice on how to use them well?

This tech is pretty bad in 1v1’s because it costs a ton and comes at a time when monks are less valuable due to armies having a larger scale.

It’s also worse on open maps compared to closed maps, as monks are just more vurnurable.

In team games this tech can work a whole lot better, though with trade you may actually not need it (like michi and black forest)

The only time I’ve made it work was on a 1v1 enclosed against koreans, as halb/monks/houfnice countered everything, wagons/siege would get converted, and halbs dealt with the rest.

Its only valuable if you see the game going into a trash war and can pick it up beforehand.

In that case a handful of monks in an army can provide a lot of value back line healing and converting what siege the enemy is able to make

Hussite reform needs to give monks +20%speed.

That’ll make them so much easier to use and protect.

You could engage and disengage much faster and something like archers can’t easily kill them.

It’ll still be very expensive but at least better than what it is.
50 monks against 50 paladins should be a win for monks if you can click fast enough.

But with bohemian halbs, you don’t need monks.

What I would really like is that idle monks should auto convert any unit within 4 tile range.

It won’t be OP, but it’ll really help in the 50 monks vs 50 paladins senario.

They are still a complementary thing I think.

It would be absolutely OP if monks could scale.

Maybe when everyone gits gud we’ll see the trashmonk meta, until then halb houfnice go brrrrrr.

In theory Redemption monks can be your trash siege in late game, both for countering enemy siege (and getting it for yourself, even!) and dealing with production buildings.

In practice monks provide no answer to castles/walls and TCs and Bohemians have Houfnice.

The tech might still be useful in those rare cases where the game goes super late, but developed in a way going Houfnice was never an option and it’s mostly army v army …

but that seems such a constructed example and i general I feel the tech is kinda wasted on a civ with such a powerful siege unit and clear late game plan.

I only use it if an opponent relies on onagers or BBC, that way it gives much value.

Its also helpful for converting buildings en masse.

But if an opponent has hussar?

    No go.
