I have been pondering what the worth of Age of Empires 2 is, not to purchase on Steam or Microsoft Store, but the company as a whole. For example, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is worth around seven to eight billion. Since Age of Empires 2 is a smaller game, its value will be much lower. I am just curious to know if it is worth approximately ten to twenty million.
I’m not sure aoe2 would have a true ‘net worth’ since the game itself doesn’t produce revenue, like pubg/fortnite does with in-game skin purchases, and net worth is also dependent on future revenues
That said, ensemble studios was making $20+ million per year in revenue from aoe2 alone back in 1999-2001, not including expansions. Assuming the DE resurgence sold a similar amount of copies, you’d have to expect Microsoft has been pulling in similar numbers since 2019
Forgotten empires(mainly developing aoe2 and aoe3) was bought for $32.5 million last year. AoE as IP is quite valuable i would say. Niche genre without microtransactions cannot bring billions, let’s see what mobile does.
It depends. But right now it’s not worth a lot as revenue comes from selling copies of the game but obviously the game is out for quite a while now so I guess it’s not selling a lot any more. On the other hand, further DLCs would generate new income .
greatest series of all time, ensemble studios are thr goats of gaming
what r u talkin ’bout?
