Hello everyone! We are developing a game to make decisions in Age of Empires 2.
We have created a proof of concept which you can view here: [https://playcanv.as/b/64f68b9d](https://playcanv.as/b/64f68b9d).
If anyone has any ideas or wants to help out, please let us know.
When it comes to deciding which answer is the best out of multiple good options, we tend to prioritize the ones that have higher chances of success in mid-elo range games.
We also prefer solutions that are easier to execute.
If the civilization has a bonus for a certain unit or building, that is usually preferred.
If the unit has a unique ability (such as Eagle, Shrivamsa, or Steppe Lancer), that is usually the better choice as it can surprise the enemy.
Additionally, there are specific reasons for certain civs to choose one option over another (for example, monks are preferred over pikes for Aztecs or Lithuanians as they are needed to collect relics).
It should be noted that the answers can be somewhat subjective.
This game is not meant to be taken too seriously and is just meant to be a fun game!

My feedback:
Pros:
+ there’s some great effort behind the scenarios with the base screenshots and the setup.I really appreciated seeing the situation.
+ The extra reasoning behind the answers helps give me a sense of what u were thinking so I appreciated it even if I didn’t always agree.U might consider changing the tone to be more of an opinion tho instead of right/wrong.
Especially for mid-elo.
+ It’s fun to think about the scenarios and what I would do.I see a lot of potential with combining civ matchups, maps, current age, and game circumstances.
There’s a lot of civ matchups or situations where the a better move is obvious afterwards but I don’t notice it in the moment so it would be fun to encounter that in this game first and then apply it in a real game.
Cons:
– why is it a 3d game? It’s mostly a mental game but I need both hands to play?
Also it took me forever to figure out how to actually choose the answer once I decided which one to go for.
Really wasnt a fan of the controls.
There should be more instructions at the very least.
I played it on phone browser.
– I don’t think it should be right or wrong answers.Just give more points for answers u think are better and less points for the other answers.
It would be nice if there was a running total so I could see how I’m doing and compare with my friends or through different play throughs.
At the end if there was a summary or current score/total possible points that would be nice.
Overall: great content and I’m definitely interested/would play the full version and like to see more scenarios added but controls and execution/delivery need some improvement.
Hope that helps!
February 18, 2023 at 5:04 pm #13678notnortherGuestReally cool idea.
Had a little bit of issue on my phone not being able to go through the wall on the first question, however, on my laptop it was fine.
I agree with the previous commenters, making it 3d is probably just making a little too advanced to what it needs to be.
A regular quiz format would likely suffice.

This could be a community driven project with people adding in their own decision trees.
Suggestions-
1) It doesnt have to be a 3d game. This could be acheived through simple clicks.
It starts to become too cumbersome and disorienting.
2) To ensure scalability, I wouldnt make the screenshots of the maps a requirement.A good descrption helps.
3) Addinng reasons why somethings is good or bad.
4) Adding game levels.
5) Scoring system.I am sure this has potential to be a mobile game / you can get twitch casters to play between games etc.
I would really suggest to look into community sourcing the trees.
Take a look into how aoebuilds does it.
It will help a lot, because the value of this game is in the content.

February 18, 2023 at 5:04 pm #13681HamR_OClockGuestI once started making something similar called AoE2 AutoCoach a couple years ago before I got busy.
It was very similar to what you’ve made but it was more generic situations and was intended to coach rather than to be a puzzle scenario like yours.
I can send through my files for inspiration if you like.
I also agree with what the other commenter said, I don’t think it needs to be 3D.
Further, I found the 2nd question scenario a bit strange: how on earth is the opponent going 3 stable after opening 2 range and not a lot of farms?
I just don’t see a game ending up like that after how it opened in question 1, but I’m not mid elo so maybe I’m out of touch
