Every experienced Nomad player knows that the top tier civilizations on this map are the Spanish, Malians, and Persians (consult /u/Hera_Aoc’s tier list for more information). I think two changes could be made to improve the balance of the map:
1. Remove the Spanish building speed bonus on the initial town center.
The Spanish already benefit from a free villager and a faster castle drop, so they don’t need the extra advantage of a faster town center. The Sicilians had their bonus removed from the initial town center, so the same should apply to the Spanish.
2. Increase the dock cost from 150 wood to 175 wood.
This change would be especially beneficial to generic civilizations. After building a town center, house, and dock, generic civs would have 25 wood left, while the Malians and Persians would have 92 and 75 wood left respectively due to their civilization bonuses. This would allow the Malians and Persians to create a fishing ship before the town center was even finished, which is a huge advantage. However, if the dock cost is increased to 175 wood, generic civs would have no wood left after building the town center, house, and dock, and the Malians and Persians would only have 71 and 50 wood left respectively, meaning they would have to wait for the town center to be built and for wood to be collected before creating a fishing ship. This would make the advantage less extreme.
These changes would have implications for other aspects of the game, but the 25 wood difference is relatively small and the dock is an important economic building, so an increase in cost is justified. Most importantly, it would help to reduce /u/TheViperAOC’s insane fish boom on Rage Forest games!
