I recently began playing Age of Empires on Xbox after an extended period of time, and I was wondering if you could suggest some civilizations to me that are good for generating resources and have strong militia or cavalry units.
Berbers!!!
Huns would be best.
Dont have to worry about houses so you can use the limited controller apm on eco and army
Franks are a great start becuase of easy to understand bonuses.
Spanish can also be good as well.
Personally I like the Khmer but they take a little more thought about how to use their bonuses
Byzantines and Teutons!
start with Huns on Xbox.
Once you get the hang of it, try other civs(and then come back to huns cause they are awesome)
Have you played other rts games?
If so Huns are a good civ to start with.
If you haven’t played I’d look into Franks.
Archers I think are harder for new players.
Franks,Magyars,Mongols, Tatars,Huns and Berbers are good starting points.
Look into scouts into knights.
That’s a good build.
Shoot for feudal around 9:40 with 21 pop up and about 20:00 castle with 38 villagers.
I loved Chinese because of the extra villagers, but that was long ago.
Franks are great as many have said.
Hindustan is for cheap villagers.
Huns for not needing to worry about houses.
I’ve really been enjoying Mongols, you get some good eco bonuses early and the transition into knights/steppe lancers is smooth plus, Magudai!
I’ve been having some good success with Khmer, you don’t have building requirements when upgrading to the next age and their Elephant units are amazing.
I would go with Franks.
As much as it is a dead tell what your going for it’s clear and has good options
Bulgarians and Magyar are also good choices
I would recommend Persians.
They have a broad tech tree and start with extra resources.
Great cavalry, with fully upgraded paladin, hussar, camel.
Some find them generic and unsexy but that is what I argue makes them a great beginner civ.
You can get a great feel for the different aspects of the game with a well-rounded but not overpowered in any area civ like Persians.
Magyars.
-You don’t have any Eco bonuses, so any build order you learn with Magyars, you can do with any other civ.
-You have Paladin, Arbalests, Heavy Cav Archers and Champions, so even though your free melee attack techs and unique techs push you towards Cav in early to mid and Cav archer in late game, you can basically do whatever you like and it will be fine.
So basically one civ to learn everything except for siege, which is very hard to utilize at low elos anyways.
Franks is a good one.
If you haven’t yet, please check out Spirit of the Law’s YouTube channel and especially recent videos:
This is a guide to using a controller, and SotL recommends Franks.
I suggest you pick some easy cavalry civ like franks or Magyars and don’t listen at all the bullshit about being a frank picker.
Archers are harder to micro, militia line is weaker in general.
Don’t go random, pick a civ at the beginning
