Is there a Counter for Xbow and Pike Units?

When I choose a civilization that relies on cavalry and face this situation, I struggle to win even if I use swordsman or cavalry units. Do you have any advice on how to handle this, especially in the early stages of the game? Of course, I realize that pikes are the natural counter to cavalry.

Swordsman are not really efficient unless you’re goths or specifically infantry civ and going late game.

But skirms counter both pike and archet

Add 2-3 scorpions to your knights army

why would u go swordman/cav. No, just no.

If numbers are out of control the best choice is a siege, but if he just outmass you in army for no reason then u probably are dead anyways.

Knights + skirms work wonders, you can either try to separate their pikes from xbows and run in with cav or just hold with skirms while raiding with cav

Add some scorpions. It will help a lot. 3 or 4 of them make a huuuge diference.

To all that commented thanks had a couple matches tonight incorporating skirms and yes I saw the difference.

On a totally unrelated note I just had a hour long match me Dravidian v Tuetons.

Man what a game he had me smashed but I managed to get a small force of Archer Elephants and Urumi Swords into his base while he was piling on mine with his Teutonic Knights.

He had me down to 1 castle and some various other buildings but he left my marketplace and I was able to get enough resources to get a constant stream of Urumi Swords out and they worked wonders on his Knights!

For sure I thought I was finished and he must have too as he totally didn’t bother with that force I sent into his base which destroyed all his workers and town centres.

After his last Knight fell he resigned with a GG.

    That game was amazing.

Knight+skirm beats this comp in castle age. Get +2 armor and bloodlines on knights, just use the skirms to kill pikes. You probably won’t even need fletching or upgrades on the skirms if you’re just focusing down pikes. Once the likes are gone, dive the archers with knights and use leftover skirms to target archers

You don’t need to create cavalry just because you’re a cavalry civ. In the early game the civs tend to be a bit more flexible.

In your situation, I don’t see swordsmen doing much to help.

    * Knights will be slowed down.
    * Swordsmen will require baby sitting.

You’re basically just adding a liability to your army.

You’d prob be better off spending that money adding more knights and trying to catch your opponent out of position.

If you like the cavalry though then maybe consider huns and go for knights and cavalry archers. I think CA would do a better job than the swordsmen.
