I am a fan of strategy games, and my top favorites are Civ 5 and Company of Heroes (OG). I came across a list from RPS that ranks Age of Empires 2 near the top, but I found out that there are three versions of the game available. I am confused about which version to buy – the 1999 OG, the 2013 HD, or the 2019 Definitive version.March 8, 2023 at 3:34 pm #18378 jimrobertbirdGuest jimrobertbirdGuestDefinitive is the current version most people play! It’s available on steam and the windows store, as well as Xbox game pass for the PC and the Xbox series x, s. There is cross play between these stores. But after the years one have to conclude: the definitive edition is in fact objectivly the best version of the game.March 8, 2023 at 3:34 pm #18381 KombatDiskoGuest KombatDiskoGuestDefinitive if you can run it (runs on a potato, but you need one of those fancy brushed potatoes to play ranked) March 8, 2023 at 3:34 pm #18382 Travyhart97Guest Travyhart97GuestIf you wanna remember your childhood that 1999 of you wanna chill and play with a huge community I’d get definitive. Gl hv bro! My your pointy boys be sharp. March 8, 2023 at 3:34 pm #18383 nilluminatorGuest nilluminatorGuestGet DE, it’s often on sale. But just so we’re in the clear, your pc can run it, right? Check the system requirements before you buy. If you’re using an older PC, you may have to stick to HD for the time being. March 8, 2023 at 3:34 pm #18385 lulux8108dppGuest lulux8108dppGuestDE is the ultimate experience. Even for nostalgia reason or single player only, you get everything from original version but better. They redesigned, patched, added tons of campaigns in DE. March 8, 2023 at 3:34 pm #18386 theworldtheworldGuest theworldtheworldGuestI actually tried HD and ended up getting a refund for it on Steam, then buying DE instead. The graphical settings of HD just don’t work with newer computers, the units and buildings appear very tiny. You can fiddle with some settings to force it into a lower resolution, but then everything looks very grainy and blurry. DE lets you zoom in and out, which is very convenient. If you just want to replay the classic campaigns, DE lets you do that; it makes some minor changes but you probably won’t notice them. It has different music and slightly different sound effects, but honestly I think they are at least as good as the original. In terms of gameplay, DE is better. The AI is also vastly superior to the old one. Even the price is pretty low if you don’t get the newest DLCs (but you still get everything up through 2019). (if I like them I don’t mind getting them all but where do I start? with 2?) March 8, 2023 at 3:34 pm #18388 dbe14Guest dbe14GuestDE is regularly updated and has new content released as well. If you can run it get it.
