The Parthian Empire of ancient Persia was renowned for its tactical prowess.

However, due to the lack of armor, the Persian cavalry archers were not as effective as they could have been.

This raises the question: why is the term “Parthian tactics” still used to refer to the strategies employed by the Persians, despite their less-than-optimal results?

Perhaps it would be more accurate to refer to these tactics by another name.

Because it refers to the Parthian Tactics of shooting backwards from a moving horse.

It’s named after them because that’s what it’s known as.

The reason they dont have bracer is purely for balance, just like Chinese not having access to some gunpowder units.

Because Chinese do not get HC, because Goths get a university

The invention was in Persia but it would be adopted and spread through Eurasian Steppe civilizations.

Even Magyars and Bulgars get it these were steppe nomadic people who settled West of Black Sea.

Tatars I think get it for free because Tatars are a geographically wide ranging people group and many are descendants of what was known then as the Parthian empire.

The Parthian empire are bit upper eastern Persia plus balance reasons.

Because Persians don’t have Bracer for balance reasons, due to their gold-less crossbowmen.

Parthia predates the Persia of AoE2, ie.

    the sassanids by many centuries.

Just because the region was at one point known for a specific tactic doesn’t mean it was still employed hundreds of years later.

It’s called “parthian tactics” because idea of a cav archer shooting as he ran away was made famous by the Parthians at battles such as Carrhae (53 BC) where Marcus Crassus and a Roman army was killed.

It was a defensive tactic when cav archers couldn’t fight face to face with heavy cavalry and infantry.
