Growing up, I had a casual experience playing Age of Empires II with my siblings but never really delved into any strategies.

Now that the game is on console, I’m interested in learning more and developing my strategies.

I’ve been drawn to the cavalry civilizations and am looking for the best ones to use for a knight or scout rush.

What are the best civilizations for these strategies?

Knight rushing is usually a bad strategy because you’re vulnerable for a LONG time but khmer can do it the best and their bonuses mitigate the weaknesses of this strat (wood on buildings, Villagers being vulnerable).

There’s a lot of good scout rushing civs, franks, mongols and Lithuanians all have good food bonuses so they’re some of the best, but with so many good scout rushing civs you should just pick a civ with good food eco and a good stable (dravidians are terrible at scouts but burgundians are good)

Also: The norm – even on mid levels – for cav players is to open with scouts first, so you have some army presence already in Feudal.

You then start training knights (and stop training scouts) once you hit Castle Age.

For beginners however, it’s okay to just aim for quick Castle Age and go knights directly.

Unless you’re playing a closed map (arena, hideout), you probably don’t want to fast castle into knights, as you will be vulnerable a long time.

Best will be to scout rush into knights.

Franks and berbers are both cavalry civs usually recomended to beginners.

You can start with Ciceros build orders at buildorderreference.com, but he only have a old BO of 22pop scout rush.

I’t Will work if your ELO is low.

Otherwise look for a 20pop scout rush BO.

No houses means you can spare your limited apm on army and eco
