MemberAlthough I usually play at a 1.1k ELO level, when it comes to Nomad games, my performance is more like that of a lower-ranked player. I typically build my Town Center near a dense forest and then use another villager to construct a dock with a house nearby. My goal is to get 6 woodcutters up and running and to keep fishing ships going. I often have a subpar start in Nomad, so I’m wondering if there’s anything I should be doing differently. Is there something I’m missing out on? Even after following Hera’s nomad build order, it’s still one of my weakest maps. My friends even ban Nomad when we play together because of my poor performance. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can improve?

GuestPeople often try to control water in FA, personally i fish dark age then begin switching to farms and just let the enemy waste resources controlling water.

GuestNever stop making vill
If you have a vil queue you had too many on food and should have been in wood unless you are clicking up – never stop making fish ship
If you discover enemy dock and it has 3-4+ fishing ships its ok to idle tc if you go up faster and sink all fish amd protect yours
Sheep’s are Scouts, only food if you didn’t find deer or pig.
Strong meme map so Spanish = castle drop. Portuguese = castle drop… etc. If you see civ they probably picked it and just know 1 strategy

GuestYou can mostly just play nomad like any hybrid map if you would like to. Just start like you do, focus on fish and water a bit early, then play normally.
For scouting you typically use some of your sheep to scout and find enemy TCs/docks. It’s more valuable than the food since fish is better and you’ll likely have 1-2 boars and maybe some hunt if you need it.

GuestYour start sounds good, when does the problem start? Just remember to build enough houses (as always on hybrid maps) and than it depends on your distance to the enemy but on 1.1k most of the time fast castle with some fires is the play.

GuestI only played a few nomad games so far, some of them are just stupid, especially if I face someone with more experience picking the meta civs.
However, in other instances it’s a funny map, but one thing I wonder:
– Is it a good idea trying to constantly produce fishing ships or is it better to produce a few and going up faster to feudal?

GuestYes, the most important is to build TC on good woodline, you don’t waste time for perfect spot ever. Well if you are against Spanish or other aggressive civ – try to not place TC in the middle.
Sometimes it’s better to build dock in the corner with the shore fish especcially if you plan to play only 1 dock.
Usually you have at least 1 sheep – you can use it to find 2-3 boars around TC, sometimes you trying to find enemy dock with sheep.
Usually you first send 4 vils on wood to get 1 fishing sheeps and house (better to build houses with dock vil), then you should go for food with 2-3 new vils to make vils constantly (boar or deer). It’s ok if you make loom at 10 pop. Then you should have 6 on wood overall to make fish and houses constantly, but not more. Remember, after you have 3 fishing ships – you should manually find new deep fish in advance! New vils just go on food.If you don’t see boars – just explore with 1-2 vils – it’s fine. Don’t forget houses because you have 2 production buildings.
If you want to play feodal water – you should try to up with 19 vils and 5 fish, your second building must be lumbercamp or mining camp, no mill. Then just 2-3 docks water play.
If you want to fast castle – go up with like 21 vil and 7 fish. Don’t forget mill do be able to build market.
I always click town watch early in feodal to get more information, also use some outposts. -
