I have experimented with numerous strategies to address the frequent crashing that I encountered each time I played.
Eventually, I discovered that running Age of Empires II through Xbox instead of Steam solved the problem entirely.
It is a shame that this is the only solution, but those with Xbox Gamepass will be able to access the game for free.
Additionally, there is a 3 month free trial available that may be of help to those who are unable to access the Xbox version until the Steam version is fixed.
