Opposing Hindustanis and Bulgarians

This appears to be a narrative of frustration and defeat; struggling to find success against an opponent who is able to counter every move.
In the Castle Age, it seems that no matter what strategy is employed, the other player is able to match it.
This leaves the narrator feeling like they are at a disadvantage and questioning whether this is a normal experience or if they are simply a poor loser.
Konniks require two different units to counter for hindustanis.
Just spam them and you should have more units/time to tech into something else to compliment them, if macro was equal.
Also if you are being raided by light cav then you should utilize kreposts and walls
It’s a horrible matchup.
The least bad options are: 1) heavy krepost pressure.
Pikes, siege and kreposts can work well.
If he makes extra TCs forward and you can take them out with Kreposts, that’s 275w+100s down for 350s of yours and you still have a Krepost at the end.
Forget about reaching imp and try and win in Castle.
Smother, prevent expansion, pressure pressure pressure. 2) Go up to Imp fast (maybe stay on 1 or 2 TC) and use your food discounts to tech to halb + siege ram, or 2HS instead of Halbs if Hindustanis are on Ghulam.
Just try to protect your rams and take out as much eco as possible.
Keep your own base tight and well defended. 3) halb onager hussar, if you can somehow get there.
Snipe BBC with hussars.
You still die to Ghulam though.
Hand Cannoneers only become available in imperial, and the Bulgarian composition mixes infantry with cavalry by default, without the hassles of upgrading the infantry to keep up.
Just by doing this, you make your army mostly impervious to everything Hindustanis have.
Bonus: Kreposts.
Halb onager might work.
Halbs counter camels and hussar.
Onager for hand cannons.
Can mix in your free 2 handed swordsman w bagains if they go ghulam.
It’s tough matchup and I believe your only option is to play aggressive and utilize blacksmith’s upgrades discount for tech switches and krepost.
And maybe siege upgrades discount.
Halb+Onager/BBC and Hussar works really well against the Hindustani bag of tricks.
Mixing in some skirms to discourage HC from jumping on your onagers is also a great tool.
Bulgarians are also one of the few civs where you can make an argument for SO in a 1v1 due to the decreased cost.
And if you’re worried about Hussar raids you can make your Kreposts defensively, it won’t stop them but it will be better protection compared to most civs.
As an aside – Bulgarian infantry is definitely not “mediocre”.
Halbs are certainly a better choice vs Hindustani, but Bagains is no joke and absolutely DEVOURS other civ matchups.
Bad match up, in post imp hindustanis counter everything so going for forward siege is probably a good idea so you don’t die to imperial camels and hand cannons.
If they do reach imp make sure you got relics, they’re very important to get in castle age especially against hindustanis.
Hussar halb is a good comp against them to outlast their gold and to raid all their mines plus stop any camels trying to attack.
Halb konnik or halb cavalier is your best bet.
I’d pry be going halb and hussar.
Those Bulgarian hussar are no joke and even if you are out-civ’d, raiding the ish out of somebody can win you the game.
Just go Halb+Ram, maybe add HCA
(miss last armor, but they get Parthian; Hindus get last armor but no Parthian)
or Hussar (faster attacking with Stirrups).
Bulgarians get 50% discount on siege techs, so getting to Siege Ram shouldn’t be too difficult.
