GuestI agree on the placement of AI. I feel it’s good for booming, but lacks the ability for a good push. Basically after the first attack they start to trickle units to the slaughter.
Ah! Shot you a DM.

GuestOne odd behavior: AIs HATE walls. Every inch of a wall MUST DIE. Despite just needing a hole or two.

GuestElo is very good tool to determine a ranking. The downside being that it takes some time to put you in the correct elo. The positive thing is that this is only for the first x games. Howmany games depends on how much worse/better you are than average.

GuestIt’s not a mistake that you start at 1000 elo. It’s essential based on how the elo system works for AoE2. The starting elo will always be the average the playerbase converges on, moving it down just means that all the current 1k players are going to end up at the new starting elo, and the 700s will be pushed even further down. That’s mathematically how it works.

Guestthe devs cannot pick what elo u start at, the starting elo will always be the avarage, 50% of people will be above it, and 50% bellow it, if they picking 700 elo as a starting point instead of 1000, the whole ladder would just drop by 300 elo and u would still have the same problem, since the avarage person would now be 700 elo, thats just how elo works.
The way to solve this, is to make a new player play a few matches against AI before beeing allowed to play ranked, and then using some sort of algorythm to be able to determine not only who won, but how close was the match, and then using that information to give u ur elo
That would not only help lower elo people like you to get to ur elo quickly, but it would also help reduce smurfs, since higher elo people creating new accounts would just completly wreck the extreme AI, and the algorythm should pick up on that, and put their elo way higher

GuestI’m somewhat amazed at your assessment of extreme AI. I had trouble defeating it consistently until I was around 1200 Elo. Even now at 1300 Elo, if I give it too much space it will overrun me various units and I will have a difficult time recovering. In my personal experience the extreme AI is a master of rushing and army control. There are notable exceptions – it has trouble dealing with garrisons and walls of any kind. I will yet units into the TC/castle/tower and bump against any building placed in its way. And it has trouble dealing with certain units (in the past it had trouble dealing with eagle warrior line, not sure if that’s still a problem today).
I would place the extreme AI at 12xx Elo, as long as it’s opponents don’t realize its the AI and cheese it in some way. Funny how our experiences differ. I wonder if you are on a steep Elo climb as a new player with a top of over 1500 Elo? Or will you turn out a stable 1000 Elo player?
Edit: Interesting how our perceptions of the AIs ability differ. I wonder how much our knowledge of facing the AI affects our gameplay. Maybe you are going extra hard on it, maybe I am going soft? Would be that much more interesting for me to see it perform on the ladder, appropriately anonymized.
