I attempted to defeat him, but he utilized ballista elephants and war elephants as tanks, making it difficult for me to win despite using every counter strategy. If I had a teammate, which civilizations should we choose to improve our chances of victory? It’s challenging to beat him on high resources because he brings in 50 elephants at imperial age within 20 minutes.

Pick a really good siege onager civ maybe? 10 SOs should totally flatten Khmer. Perhaps Celts or something?

i once had a teammate on a TG pack halbs inside of siege towers and charge the elephants with that, his reasoning is that it moved faster than rams. i thought it was a cooler strategy than my constant desperate stream of hussars and tarkans

    I recommend changing the settings

    OR

Play as celts or ethopians and go siege halb, khmer doesn’t have very good halb siege counters as a scorpion and cavalry civ, in a team game have either Italians or Bohemians as an ally for bombard cannons and either super strong halbs or genoese crossbows

Italians and Celts is a good option with the settings you’re describing. Gen Xbow+SO/Halb erases Khmer completely.

Alternatively swap out Celts for Ethiopians or Teutons if you want a BBC option.

Spanish monks? Microing monks is tedious, but they are one of the best counters to elephants.

If you wanna try something with a teammate, I’d suggest the Goth Condo sling. I suspect being on high resource setting would give you some advantage since it could mean going up to imp even faster so you can get the condo spam going.

Heavy scorp get bonus damage against elephants, get a good heavy scorp civ and spam him to death, anything fast moving enough to somehow get close, you got hakbs for that

    Try Byzantine Halbs (%25 cheaper)

I had a 2v2 ranked yesterday and my team was struggling against the Khmer ballistas, not sure if I recommend but our tactic was; It was late game and gold was getting low. my teammate was Byzantine Halbs and I was Hindu light cav with hand cannons (+2 range). I would attract groups of the ballista elephants with my light cav and turn them around. then we would fight smaller groups of them with our halbs and hand cannons!

Attack faster. Elephants are expensive and take a long time to mass.

eagles could be good here coz they do bonus VS siege and are also fast moving.

Perhaps try mayans (or aztecs/incas), start with eagles against his ballistas and mix in halbs against the elephants. halbs should also be good against the ballistas., and they share the same upgrades as eagles. When you engage against the balliastas try to use spread formation to greatly decrease the ballistas’ DPS against your eagles.

then mix in your other options as mayans – mostly plumes or arbs.

What are “high resources”? It’s not possible to have imp and 50 elephants unless high resources means you gather like 2-3x as fast?
