The writer played their first online game, feeling confident after winning against friends and learning from videos.
They picked Mayans against Slavs on Arabia and succeeded in killing 15 of their opponent’s villagers.
However, they didn’t prepare for a cavalry raid and lost the game.
Despite feeling terrible, they are excited to improve their skills and play more online games.
They realized their mistakes and received tips for future games.
They also asked about others’ experiences with their first online games.
Nice story!
Continue playing, try to not be overwhelmed by the stress (just feel the adrenaline when you opponent rushes you and you must defend) and enjoy you wins!
Then have a look at your replays to know what went wrong or what you can do better
And finally, continue to watch pro games and try to analyze what they do at what occasion to improve on your own!

I stressed out so much my first game.
Now I’ve learned to love the stress this game gives me.
Even more so when my plans go haywire, or getting dropped into a weird scenario and having to improvise my way through.
I don’t typically rush but I always prepare to be rushed.
I keep all my buildings close together and start putting up towers asap.
A town center and a couple towers garrisoned with upgrades will keep most rushing attacks at bay, at least until castle age.
Want free wins?
Just build mangonels.
Its stupid.
Good to see that you’ve not given up after the loss.
I’m a fairly new player myself, and got into similar situation yesterday (me as Lithuanians vs huns) where I opened scouts and got some vil kills while the opponent hit castle very fast.
Irrespective of the damage to his eco, he pumped knights and soon followed up with monks and scorpions & rams, which turned into a deadly deathball.
My issue was that I didnt prepare any defense for it.
I lost my tc and half of the base but I kept going somehow, overusing the market to get some kind of defense.
Eventually, I came back somehow, hitting imp faster (I don’t know how that happened lol)
Looking back at the replay I can say that opponent probably thought I’m dead and stopped focusing on eco and waited for me to resign haha.
Hope you’re having fun.
The experience of playing ranked is unlike any of games I play.
I can’t only play one or two matches a day, fun but stressful
