Bengalis are a popular choice for Arena and Fortress games, but they don’t fare as well on Arabia. Their Knights are weak, their Archers are average, and their Elephants are rarely seen. Is it possible to make them a viable option in 1 vs 1 Arabia, or is it just too difficult?

They are not great by any means, but they are playable. It feels like their main strengths are eco and late game compositions, so you can try to play towards that goal. They can do every usual opening. If you want to play meta, you can play xbows fine. They benefit from defensive playstyle, so maybe a passive feudal age (early up, eco upgrades, walls, defensive skirms) or castle age (boom and defend with monks, skirms or siege, depending of against what) and then work towards your power unit. Elephant archers are excellent, personally I’d say they are your go to unit, and you can transition to them from scouts, xbows, or just after a boom. Ratha are meh, but in late came, with plenty of light cav to protect them against skirms, they can work. Elephant can also work in late game. Alternatively, they can do good monk-siege pushes in Castle Age.

M@a into scouts or archers. Fletching and bloodlines payoff if planing on ele arcehrs. Castle age defense is easy with durable monks and walking towers. Extra vils are super fine. Skirms , light cav and halbs are far from FU but perform really well when paired with eles. Castle necessary for the UT, I usually drop it forward as an offenssive option for an otherwise really slow army.

Bengalis are weak in castle age. Improve monk micro & play defensive. Lategame you can go arb halb, or ratha lightcav, with siege. If you have too much res, go elite ele archers.

They die hard to full aggression, unless your monk micro is elite you will always struggle due to the lack of military options in the mid game.

Ele units don’t kick in til Imp and you need to be not have taken to much damage by that stage.

Plus if you get into a treb war while defending you don’t fair to well with no knights, bbc, affordable power unit to snipe Trebs.

If you lose Castles early in treb wars you can’t really rely on Ratha either, so better just hope your Eco is much better then theirs and try mass Ele Archers.

Those extra vills take a bit of time to give you any bonus at all and you need an extra house early on some builds because of it. Much better on maps where they get to fc with 4 extra vills and even then it still feels like the bonus takes a minute to kick in. That late game super fun though.

I just played a game with them on Arabia today (vs celts). It was pretty typical archer play, where I ended up with enough farms on 1-2 tc play and mostly making xbow to get up to imp first and finish with LC, Arb, and ele ram. I suspect that more aggressive archer civs and good cav civs are going to be tougher for Bengalis than celts, but mixing in Skirms or siege for archer civs and Monks vs cav civs could be helpful.

Wait for a rework. They absolutely suck. All of your options are caged-in from the start.
