I’ve been playing on and off since the game came out, I’ve never once played in an online game. Thought about it a few times but, I just like building cool forts and letting the AI die in droves trying to assault them. I couldn’t care less about ranked.
That’s 45 000 active 1v1 players though
Multi-players for virtually any game typically grossly underestimate the percentage of people that play exclusively single player, or that only rarely play multi-player. AOE2 is no exception.
Because:
1. Idle reddit accounts
2. More pools than 1v1 rm
3. There’s still people on HD/CD
Sprit of the law and I think the main game dev have stated that most people don’t play online.
I’m still really into AoE2 but haven’t played the actual game in months for a variety of reasons. This subreddit and the various AoE2 Youtube channels are great ways to stay involved in the game, and I’ll come back for sure. It’s such an amazing game, even when you’re not playing it :-).
Welcome to RTS gaming where majority of playerbase does not play competitive mode. Campaigns, friendly games, custom maps, AoE2 is so much more than just 1v1.
Well I only play team ranked 😀
And a lot of players play unranked and/or single player.
And your are only listed in the ladder when you played a game in the last 14 days.
Also a lot of inactive reddit accounts I guess.
Ask anyone with kids. I only play game modes where I can pause for extended times or quit without negatives. That basically rules out ladder.
This is why I maintain that played ranked at all is impressive in itself. A 1000 elo player is way, way better than a LOT of aoe2 players who don’t play ranked at all.
It really grinds my gears when people say “13xx is noob”. Like, bruh….. I’m not saying a 1300 is pro or anywhere close to it, but people at that elo definitely know what they’re doing lol
A lot of people don’t play ranked or unranked. Some play by themselves or with friends against bots
