Yesterday, I participated in my first real match after finishing the tutorial.

Since I am new, I have a couple of questions to ask.

Firstly, I discovered the enemy camp and tried to set an ambush by placing two groups of militia on opposite sides of the camp.

However, after positioning the first group in some trees and initiating the movement of the second, I suddenly received a notification that I was being attacked.

I lost my entire first group, and despite trying to regroup and fall back, I ended up losing all of my military units.

Did I make a mistake, or is it necessary to keep all units together?

Also, my cavalry is severely damaged, and when I tried to garrison it, I was unable to do so.

Although I had the garrison icon, I couldn’t figure out how to use it.

Despite using both left and right clicks, my cavalry ended up in both the barracks and housing areas without any healing.

By default units are on an aggressive stance which means you have to change it to defensive or stand ground, stand ground means they’ll only attack what’s in range, defensive they’ll attack whatever attacks them, aggressive they’ll attack whatever enters their line of sight.

As for point 2 I’m fairly sure Cav can’t garrison?

I’ve never tried anyway so I could be wrong there but to heal them you can use the Monk unit
