I think they should be able to build sea outposts in fuedal . Like early warning buoys that can be killed fairly easily by a galley.
Others have already pointed out why this is much less necessary for fishing ships than for villagers. The farthest I would go down this road is by giving it to one civ as a bonus or upgrade (e.g. a “Heavy” fishing ship that carries more/has a weak attack).
It could even be added onto the effects of the Thalassocracy tech for Malay.
I look forward to the inevitable fishing ship rush meta.
But I actually do kind of like it. If it’s a melee attack you would have to be really sleeping to lose a fireship or galley to them, and that sounds like the kind of mistake this would be designed to punish.
Could be a neat civ-specific bonus for the right civ.
AoE4 gives the ability to shoot weak arrows to Delhi’s fishing ships, but other civs are defenceless, just like all AoE2 civs.
The difference I think is that villagers can encounter wolfs and similar gaia dangers in land, and that’s realistically when their attacks are most useful (except for the Spanish of course). There’s nothing like that on water maps, so I don’t really see the usefulness.
IDK, perhaps it could be added as a bonus for a new water civ someday? But to me it sounds more gimmicky than useful tbh.
I never really thought about it, but it kinda makes sense.
This may kill the feudal fire ship rush
Throw fish at the enemy (it costs 1 food per attack)
