I’m new to Xbox gaming and I’m curious about wonders. Are they commonly used or is it frowned upon? The other day, I placed a wonder and a player freaked out, pausing and unpausing the game until it crashed. Is this a usual reaction?
It was unranked. I’m guessing it’s just not a done thing
In ranked games Wonders cannot be used to get a victory. It’s a huge investment that doesn’t get you anything, so placing one in ranked play is a troll move, basically saying “haha look I’m so far ahead I can piss away all these resources and villager time and still be fine”
That’s probably why your opponent got pissed with you

Honestly wouldn’t mind seeing wonders give some sort of boost to the player, kinda sad they are relegated to specific game modes that can’t be played unless you make a custom unranked lobby game
Wonders only have any effect in standard victory games, which is a minority setting even in unranked lobbies. But in the niche situations where they have any effect and you can actually pull them off, they’re fine.
But there are some incredibly petty and immature people online who go apeshit whenever someone builds a wonder, even where they willingly entered or hosted a lobby where that would be one possible outcome of the game. You will probably run into this a lot, but I wouldn’t let a few toxic players ruin how you want to play the game. This is just one of many triggers for toxic players.
Building a wonder is the teabagging of this game. At least in ranked. Well done sir 11
Some people get upset about it. Those people are idiots. Sadly, they complained enough to make wonders not a thing in ranked games.
Tbh hate them. When I play and some dude drops it I either rush mine with my entire population or leave
